We'll , It's basicly finished !

I'll continue to clean up the detail on it and I'd like to stick a little belly pan on it too but it's basicly finished for now.

http://www.gixxer.com/uploads/DSC01309.jpg

I put some rubbers from the ram air tubes on the TLR over the air inlets to clean them up.

http://www.gixxer.com/uploads/DSC01312.jpg

This is the view from on board...

http://www.gixxer.com/uploads/DSC01317.jpg

Here is where all the wiring, fuse box, horn, overflow etc went...

http://www.gixxer.com/uploads/Copy_of_DSC01327.jpg

And finally the fit of the Buell front end...

http://www.gixxer.com/uploads/DSC01316.jpg

So , there ya go !

I think as I get time I'll change the front brake master cylinder for a SV1000 or a Bandit one without the bottle and even convert to a Hydraulic clutch. The cable is a pain.

Any suggetions ???????

I think you should get a trophy for what you have created. Looks real good. Kinda reminds me of what I greated, But I didn't run a muffler at all just a header and the little pipe off of the header on a Ti-Force exhaust. It won't hurt anything and you can still do full throttle power wheelies sittin down at 65 next to cars, at least mine did until.............. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

They are the rubber adaptors for the ram air tubes on a TLR.

They are totally standard, I put a bit of mesh in the front of them, they already have a steped slot in them for the mesh to sit in.

I had to rough up the frame under them and sand the back side of the rubber, then epoxy them in place, then I used "100mph" tape to tape them to the frame from the inside as well.

The induction noise is quite different now.

Well that is a damn sweet 1000.
If you don't mind giving away all your secrets, I am looking for a web site or company where I could purchase some steel braided hoses and one of those silver covers for the front of the radiator.

Thanks for posting the pictures. It just reinforces that some of my ideas will definatly work. I remember when I first got my bike, I was thinking of making it a street fighter even before I knew they existed.

Keep up the good work.

Kick ass bike!!! http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif My question is this, how do you guys get the tube bars on the bike if it originally came with clip ons?

Very impressive!!!

Was it hard to relocate all of the front fairing stuff to under the tank? Does it all get hot now? How is wind protection comparatively?

The wiring was the hardest thing to move, I even managed to fit the standard rad overflow bottle in the gap behind the engine.

Moved the Horn, fuse box,rad bottle, some hoses and had to rewire the fan switch.

Not to bad considering it was never made to do this to.

As for the wind protection, the is none. You feel like a parachute. Although whlie the front wheel is up where it seems to want to be all the time the rest of the bike shelters you from the wind quite well http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/bounce.gif

With 6 extra teeth in the back ,and sometimes one off the front, it's revin pretty hard if you try to go to quick.

SIMPLY AWESOME!!!!!

I am doing the same thing to my gix K1, and daMN if it looks 1/2 as good as yours then Ill be HAAAAPPPPY!

I'm still trying to hide the overflow bottle looks like yours just squeezed in... had any probs with engine heat? How did you secure it? I might use your TLR ram intake idea which looks Sweet BTW i'll ad the "trademark" in for ya.. :p

Cpl more quick questions, I know you must be busy... Do you have any more pics of how you hid the wires/overflow... Ive re-routed all my wires under tank but as I'm still waiting on my finished headlight bracket & speedo retention I only did a quick n nasty job get it on the road.

Also the braided hoses, are they just sleeves or completely replaced?

Awesome work mate!!! http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/burnout.gif http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/banana.gif http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

That looks like a lot of love there! http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif I'm amazed you can close your tank tho I do notice the tank liner. I had to cut a few couplers and re-wire/solder extensions so all couplers are under seat, tho you managed to squeeze beside air box, mod the tank or just damn tight fit?

Stocky
09-10-2003, 04:22 PM
Nah, no cutting or modifing , just was careful when rewiring to stager the plugs so that none of them sat beside another one, took some work.

It all works good, I hung the stock overflow bottle from the fuel rail and attached the top with cable ties and fuel line, then tied the bottom to some wiring with a cable tie.

Well that bike is right up there, with the bikes that you've turned into fighters. Really really clean work. I never really thought of a 1K as a bike that would make a good fighter, guess I was proved wrong

I hope you never try to give wheelie advice to anyone. "Come on, you just put it in sixth and open the gas. How stupid can you be?" http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/burnout.gif http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

You mentioned in the original post about perhaps changing the clutch-actuator over to hydraulic. ...have you seen the Magura hyd. clutch "conversion kits" - they seem to be really popular on the off-road/MX/quads and such.

I like the look, but it would rule if you could take the ram intakes and angle them down to match the headlight. The design would "flow" a little better IMO. Still, awesome looking bike.

Are you planning to keep the stock tail section on the bike? With all that you've done - that stock tail still looks too "original"...

Props on a very well executed 'fighter...

That looks fuckin sweet! I got some questions though... I'm new to streetfighters and am wanting to purchase my friends "wrecked 03 Sixxer" and turn it into a fighter. Where is your ignition? I noticed those bars covered up the tree and i could not see another key hole? also how do you convert your clipons to the renthal bars? We stripped his bike and i'm going to get a shop to check it out to see if anything mechanically is wrong with it... i know the master cylinder is bent to hell and needs replacing... it runs great still no leaking or off noise. thanks for any help http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Stocky

Ok, the stock top clamp can be milled to take some bar mounts.

The ignition is mounted in the "Buell" front end. Only cause that was the best place for this setup.

The wiring is the trick, you have to wire all the fuse box etc back under the tank. There is heaps of room under there so it's no drama.
