Im not trying to start an argument but i was just wondering if anyone here has gained too much confidence from riding an a nice groomed track and went out onto the street and lost it due to something in the road or was just pushing it too hard for the street?
ive never been on a road course i just figured there would be more traction. thats why i thought of this

You do gain tons of confidence on tracks - but most actually go slower on public roads afterwards because they start noticing stuff to lose traction on and stuff to crash into...

Definately do a track day. It's so much better than street :thumbup

the only thing im worried about on the street is loose debris in the road. I like to go fast but where i live i dont think i'll ever be trying to drag a knee on the street. about 5 years ago i totaled a car due to roadwork in the middle of a turn because there was no warning it was coming up. no signs, no workers at the time, just 5 foot of gravel all the way across the street where they layed in some new pipe.

Anything is possible. There are people out there who get a lot of confidence on their last session and somehow forget to warm up their tyres.

SVS is right, generally you get a lot of it out of your system when you do trackdays and riding the street becomes a nice pace that you can enjoy.

You can hit oil going slower then the speed limit and crash, ditto for sand, sticks etc

I have hit a large stick while lent over, if I was going much faster I would have gone over the double lines. If the corner was a sharp one, my line would have been effected more.

Everyone wants to have fun in the twisties, there is no fool proof way. The only way to minimize incidents is to do a slow sighting lap.

The safest way IS on the track

IMO you CAN have too much confidence after you do a trackday. Reason why I say that is because I have some riding buddies who rode overly cautious at first... and after they did their first trackday they were doing some pretty wreckless riding on city streets.

The key is to have self control and good judgement. I ride the canyons like its a track, but I usually ride it well within my limits and I've come across patches of gravel and dirts midway around a corner and was able to stay composed and not eat it. But I would NEVER....EVER do any track type riding on city streets or freeway on ramps/off ramps.

Don't go flying around your block with your knee sticking out and butt hanging off the seat just because you've done a trackday. A trackday will make you a more SKILLED rider...and along with good control and judgement it will make you a much SAFER rider.
