: Reckless Driving Ticket
Catman314 08-24-2003, 03:40 AM Hey guys, I just got a reckless driving ticket today for doing a wheelie on the free way in the Irvine area. Anyone know how much it is? And if there is a way I can downgrade it at court and then take a driving school thing to get the points off? I just moved here from new jersey so I dont know much about the laws out here. And on the ticket he wrote "wheel stand" Will I even have a chance of taking care of this? Another question.....I know that this will stay on my record for like 36 months but does the DMV take off a certain amount of points every year if you did not have any violations for that year? Thanks http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
masplinter9 08-24-2003, 04:17 AM plead "no contest" and you should get a little bit off. I've had 2 or 3 $150 tickets in my car for exceeding the speed limit by 10 or 15mph and got them down to about $75. I have no idea about a recklace driving ticket though. It might help. Good luck.
cagixxer750 08-24-2003, 10:46 PM in most cases i've seen the judges gave full fines for wreckless driving (a wheelie) and one judge even told one of my friends that he has a dangerous machine and should know better so he's getting the full penalty, i think it was a 150.00 fine and a year informal probation. i believe its 2 points on your record. you get 5 if i remember correctly its been a while since i got caught doing something that i shouldn't.
JonRags 08-24-2003, 11:54 PM My guess is you'll get the full fine. But if you go in, admit to doing it and it was tatolly stupid, you might get lucky and have the fine reduced.
I don't know how big of deal areckless is in cali. But in Wa its a gross misdemeanor and carries an automatic 30 suspension and must carry sr22 to get reinstated after suspension. I would get a laywer and at least try to plead down.
The ol plead to the mercy of the court is what idiots do, http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/piss.gif
acidman 08-28-2003, 12:30 AM Hmm, in California a reckless driving is kinda the same as a DUI. It will require you to carry a SR22 form for quite a few years. It will cost you BIG BUCKS in the long run in increased insurance fees. If you think you have a case to fight get and attorney. Otherwise, good luck.
prkiller 08-28-2003, 07:16 AM Definitly fight the ticket! Get a attorney, he may be able to speak to the DA and get it reduced. That is something you can't do!

yeah what ever you do fight it the worst case is your gonna get what your gonna get best case you get nothing by fighting it!!! wth wreckless driving they could have impounded your bike you got lucky http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif get the attorney it'll be well worth the money in the long run, wreckless driving will make your insurance skyrocket if they keep you looking at $2500-4000 per year depending on your age and other discounts (best guess) try calling around for quotes if you think the attorney is expensive and see how much it'll save you and the wreckless drive will stay on record for 7 years like DUI some insurance will concider it for that time others will only hit you hard for the 3-5 years. good luck http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
OmniGLH 09-09-2003, 03:16 PM Sheezus... maybe Chicago isn't so bad after all! All they care about here (at least, in MY county) is $$$. With a decent lawyer, a wheelie ticket will result in a whopping 30 days of supervision. If you've got a long history of this kind of stuff, they may whack you with a $200 fine.
One of my best friends had over 70 tickets last year for various things (wheelies, speeding, drag racing, squealing tires, etc) and all it took was a decent lawyer and an occasional fine, and all is well. His record is still squeaky-clean - they just give you supervision on top of supervision.
Gotta love it...
SummitSet 09-13-2003, 03:41 PM i got one of those when i was in CO. Out there i just talked to the DA. He droped it from an 8 point to a 3 point ticket. And droped the fine to under $50. It wsan't a big deal there. Here in Ca i don't know yet. Let me know how it goes so when i get one i'll have a better idea of what to do.

co_native 10-01-2003, 11:41 PM I'm down in San Clemente, just got a ticket for 90 in a 65 and the fine is $205 with traffic school. Wreckless driving won't allow traffic school, you need to fight it if you can, this state sucks when it comes to the legal system. Sorry bro, don't take it wrong but you shouldn't be doing wheelies on the fwy in orange county, the cops here don't like sport bikes at all. From Irvine down to San Clemente is one of the cop's favorite places to ticket people breaking traffic laws. Also, stay off the Ortega on weekends.

hawaii75_0 06-05-2004, 06:53 AM The two variables you have no control over is the Judge and the wilingness of the state to push the issue, get a lawyer and save the wheelies for the track. Good luck!

SoCal_GSXR 06-06-2004, 12:00 AM should be able to plead no contest, but with drivers school as punishment...
Which = Max Fine imposed and either one to two eight hour days of motor vehicle safty classes, then its cleared off your record ( first offense only tho )

dJt3xtbook 08-02-2004, 10:54 AM ok, i live in cali, so from what i've heard, (depending on the officer) you could get your bike impounded for doing a wheelie on public roads. i haven't heard this from any official source nor have i heard of this happening to someone i know, but this has been told to me by many other bike owners. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

As part of the exibitionist driving rule, they can take your car or bike.

gsxrmike 08-24-2004, 08:09 AM Im In So cal. right now. What I can tell you about a reckless driving is this. I have had one, got it in Oregon. I was doing 109 in a 35. The amount the officer wrote on my ticket was $750. I then proceeded to get a lawyer. In Oregon, which has pretty similar laws compared to Cali, It is considered as a Class A Misdemeanor. After going to court, and me and my lawyer pleading guilty, I told the judge I realized what actions I had made, what could have happened, and that I realize the infraction was a small price to pay compared to what I could have done. She was somewhat lenient, by giving me a 90 suspension on my license, fine of $250, and having to carry an SR-22 for three years. Now, the SR-22 isn't what kills your insurance rates, all an SR-22 means is that you have proof of liability insurance. Most insurance carries will more then gladly provide it for free, and all it is, is just a form sent to the DMV stating you have the insurance. Now, here is what gets you, the charge itself. Thats what kills the insurance rates for you. If you can convince the judge to lower the sentence to say....... careless driving, or exhibition of speed, and you will in turn pay the full bail amount, attend a driving school, and even possibly take on the SR-22, then your good to go. Just whatever you do, try not to get the reckless on your record. If you need anything else, just pm me and ill try to help you out. Hope this helps you man!

Kurrupt_1 08-24-2004, 01:35 PM I got cought doing a wheelie on the streets and it cost me $1000.00 to get my bike out of impound (30 day mandatory) and $500.00 fine. I bargained to lower it to 1 point instead of 2 just by getting a public defender.
Now I have to fight one for doing 106 mph on the freeway.
VETTEX2 08-29-2004, 04:44 PM 150 in traffic on surface streets ?
You are too stupid for your own good. You got caught.

Only 205? That's at least 450 in Oregon.

Any form of exhibitionist driving can get your vehicle impounded.
