I am trying to order an air filter fo my 03 1k. All of the web sites that i look at have the air filter for the 01, 02 1000. I was wondering if the air box is the same for the 02 and 03. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

i read somewhere that it didnt matter what brand of filter you used, i.e. BMC, K&N or stock. and that there was no gain on a stock motor, sans exhuast.?i would think that BMC race would do SOMETHING?

I would stay with the stock filter unless you are doing track days, then go with the BMC race (I do not think that it filters well enough for the street).

In some cases, a std BMC or K&N will drop your hp a bit, but then again they can be cleaned and reused for a long time.

Jeffw you are correct,my last dyno time showed a 4hp loss when we tryed a KN..Use stock it flows the best air....

I went with the K&N filter myself because it's cleanable and cheaper to use in the long run. The interesting part is the Suzuki dealer I bought mine from has this little K&N air test unit. It basically is a clear fiberglass box with a K&N flilter and a little fan blowing air through the filter which is supposed to make a little ball float up in a cylinder tube. You guys might have seen this display before.
Anyway when you take the K&N filter out and place a new clean stock filter in it's place the little ball will not float showing you that the stock filter is not allowing enough air to flow through it. But when using the K&N filter it floats the ball so I would have a hard time saying the K&N filter doesn't flow more air. What is anybody's take on that little test? http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

my take on that test is that if your bike were powered by a little floating ball, it would probably make more horsepower with a k&n filter.

i love those little tests that are set up to show that one product is better than another. not because they're completely irrelevant, but because some of them are just so ridiculously imaginative. plus, a lot of people are convinced by them.

i could drag my feet along a carpet and shoot a fat blue spark at a doorknob. maybe i should start making and selling high performance spark plugs made of carpet and skin.

(p.s. patent pending, i thought of it first. don't try to steal my dermidium spark plug idea, you crooks!)

That is some funny stuff somejeffguy. Very clever with the plug idea! http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Hey wait I have this great idea.....I have developed these super sticky balloons that stick to the wall all by themselves, the cool part is these balloons are not sticky at all! http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/punk.gif Now don't YOU steal my idea somejeffguy! http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

Maybe the bilke needs to be tuned for an aftermarket air filter lik ea power commander?

I got suckered by that same floating ball trick. <SIGH>. But I do wonder if you just need a remap or something. I mean, FLOATING BALLS DO NOT LIE !
