thanks to everyone that answerd the query...... with your assistance the bike is now sorted......
after removing the carbs i found that someone had mixed up the jets. standard fitment jets for uk bikes(direct from suzuki!!!) 112.5 mains on outer carbs and 115 mains on inner carbs ( supposingly larger jets fitted to inner pots.... more fuel means cooler pots? found larger jets had been put in outer carbs.
also found that float levels were set wrong and after re-setting them to spec (14.7mm from carb base to highest piont of float when float bowl removed) the bike has stopped running rich,stopped clogging up at low revs and now accelerating quicker and better throttle response.
