Hi, simple comparison question for ya all real world rider out there.
Comparison between 01 gixxer 750 and 01 gixxer1000. Ofcourse 1000 is lot more on HP and 7lb heavier. However to me what matters is handling character of the bike and decent power. On any given canyon road with lots of curves, which bike has better handling?750 or 1000? or do they handle alike in reality? I have been riding for over 10 years now but recently moved from small twins to midsize fours. And now i can actually afford trackday..ofcourse once in a while. Which one you guys will ride given that you have to use the same bike on track and canyons.
The reason being is i am stuck on which one to Buy. I sold my zx600 and now want bike with more power and better handling characteristics. I more concerned about the bike's performance rather it being a chick magnet. I personally, am leaning more toward 750 but the more hp on 1000 can alway come in handy.:)
i will generally do more weekend canyon cruising. Only occasional street riding.
I guess i read too many magazines and now i am worrying about loosing one aspect of the bike or another. Maybe you can never have it all.

hmm...i feel like if you have to ask yourself which one to get then your not ready for the 1000. i asked myself this too when shopping for my 750. i came off of a 900rr. i asked myself should i get the 750 or the 1000. i chose the 750 because it was all the power i would need because im not big into going fast in a straight line. im more into scraping pegs. i feel that the 750 allows me to hold my own against all of the other bikes out there except the 1k and pay only 600cc insurance. think of it this way the 750 is a quick and precise instrument that needs to be ridden to the edge to be able to get the most out of it (like a scalpel). where as the 1000 is more of a in your face all power bike that doesn't need to be ridden to the edge to make you shit your pants (more like a cleaver). by to the edge i mean i have to ring the piss out of my bike it is not a morning person it doesn't get up until after 10 http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif they both handle amazing but the margin of error on the 1000 is by far smaller because of the added power.

Now, this being all out suzuki forum... What ya all think of YamR1...? Ofcourse i will be goin for 750 cause of Insurance reasons. but still like to hear a thing a two about R1. Please be realistic as i am doin my homework before i invest my $.

I have a 02 R1 and the 750. You can't go wrong with either one. I guess it would come down to price of bike and insurance costs. In that case, I guess it's the 750.

i was looking at the r1 too when shopping. the 750 will out run a 00-01 r1. i don't know about the newer ones. but there was no way i was going to pay 1000cc insurance again after getting bent over on the 900rr insurance. if i was going to pay the 1000cc insurance i would rather have spent the insurance money on the 1k. the older r1 is a very capable bike it was light up front and stunts were easy due to the massive torque. i don't have much experience with the newer 02-on r1. i have heard that they refined it alot and the chassis is much better in terms of handling. but you know they are redoing the r1 in 04 right? maybe if your stuck on a liter bike you should wait and see what the zx10, r1, and 1000rr will be like. i know im waiting.
