: Helmet Hair: How do you manage?

Hey there its the inquiring member here. I have medium length curly hair and I've had to put my hair in a low ponytail (or two) to put my helmet on. I slap a bandana on top to keep my hair flat and to absorb any sweat but when I take off the helmet I look like I just ran a mile or two :ohmy with curls sticking up.

Any tips on keeping hair manageable and somewhat presentable once I reach my destination? Do you keep a brush and gel with you?

I have long wavy hair, I always keep it in a braid or two. I never have a problem with helmet hair. I think adding gel would make it worse and the helmet would eventually smell from it too.

i don't think my hair is long enough for braids so pigtails it is. i have fine curly hair so it curls once an ounce of humidity hits it...thanks!

Put a hat in your cowl and just switch helmet for hat when you get to your destination.

yeah, i use a baseball hat.
but lately, i'm beginning not to give a F and just walk around with really flattened hair depending on where i am.

I have medium-long hair and I usually have it in either a ponytail or in a braid. My hair just looks bad no matter what, so I just end up pulling it back once we get to our destination... I do keep a very small hairbrush in my tail just in case! :)

I have medium-long curly hair.... I keep an alligator clip in my tail so if I get somewhere and it's not cooperating it goes in a clip. No biggie.

i too have curly hair...

i'm not really a baseball cap person though. i tried using a bandana but when i take off my helmet it comes right off and also makes my head sweat a little more...so i think i'll travel with a hair band and hair clip.

Yeah we dont care what our hair looks like either, but if you've never tried to get knots out of long hair you just have no idea. :thumbdown Painful and irritating only begins to describe it.

Besides, men bitch when we cut our hair short anyways.

Funny this is, my hair usually looks better after I take off my helmet!

I have long straight hair. When I put my helmet on, I'll twist the bottom of my hair into a bun and I'll tuck it in the helmet.

My hair creates this pretty wave after I take it off. And it looks HOT. :)

You're a chick on a bike? Helmet head is like an effin' tattoo! Wear it proud!! :cool

A couple of years ago, i shaved my head (yes, I am a woman and my boyfriend actually likes it) mainly to stop dealing with the constant ponytails and ratty post-ride hair. Now I just keep it at a bit of a buzz cut:ohmy. I made my hair work for my lifestyle, not the other way around!

i still get your problem sometimes especially in summer.. although i couldn't live without my long hair..

an ex told me about sea-salt spray and its great.. just spray it on before you dry your hair.. also dont use any other products such as moose or waxs coz they dont mix well with the heat under your lid

use a good mint conditioner and shampoo, then spray some sea-salt on before you dry :punk hope it helps

I like to have my hair blow in the wind (hanging out the back of the helmet) but I tell you the knots that form underneath next to my neck are a real pain in the a$$ when it comes to brushing out. I usually pull it in a ponytail, braid or just put a couple bands going down the ponytail in segments. If anyone else has any better suggestions, other then shaving your head, I would be open to hearing. I love my long hair and wouldn't chop it for the world.

I'll subscribe to the shaved head idea. IMO shaved head looks HAWT on some women; not so much on others. but the fact remains. If you ride, sport the bad hair with pride.
