Which air filter should i get? the K & N is cheaper but, i hear it doesnt make as much of a difference as the BMC Race filter.

I have the K&N, I found that it made a little difference, nothing really great but I could notice a little bit.

this area has been thrashed.
the consensus is
stock is extremely good, k&n is good from a value perspective being washable etc. but doesn't provide a gain(some claim a small loss). BMC apparently will allow You to net a small gain with tuning but it doesn't filter as well due to larger holes.
hope that helps, it's just my summary of mountains of reading on the topic.

I went with a K&N for reusablilty but i'll go BMC next time.

Also the bmc puts out a significant amount of intake noise through your ram air tubes. From what im told it's not excessive but it's substantial.

Being reusable is probably the biggest advantage of it. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

well check this out guys. As a vette owner.. heres a fact that K&N reps have admitted. The pre oiled k&n filters are absolutely soaked in oil. The first thign you should do is wash it out, dry it and re spray it.... but DONT drown the thing with oil. I have proof of this. I have access to a dyno about 15 mins from my house so i dynoed my bike after eveyr mod just to see some things.

Stock 99.7 rwhp
Stock + K&n Filter 100.5 rwhp
Stock + K&N filter washed and resprayed and dynoed 4 hours later.. 102.6 rwhp.

I sprayed a little amount on the filter... just enough to cover the whole element but not turning it solid RED like it comes from the factory. K&N reps say they do that because of testing they have to be able to filter out dirt much better than paper filers so they totally cover it. The real secret is rewashing it. Even the dyno guy was surprised.... and yes i do have lots of time to waste... http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Well the obvious would be that it wont filter out as much dirt as fully soaked in oil... but it does sound way nicer, and pulls harder at speed. I couldnt care less about some more dirt... i want to rebuild the thing anyways. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

I put a K&N in my bike on friday and its sounds louder http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif everyone noticed it too , Also the bike feels like it has more pull , maybe its because of the NYC cold air .
