Don't feel so bad - we all do this from time to time. I did it on my K7 1000 when I first changed out the license plate bracket. Fortunately (or unfortunately), the seat lock release can be actuated from outside when the cable is not attached. On my K7, there's even a slightly wider slot on the left side of the bike, about 1/4" long and an extra 1/8" high, along the seam where the tail section meets the bottom of the passenger seat (or rear cowl, if you're using that), to allow you to get in there.

Take a sturdy coathanger, straighten it out, bend the last 3/8" or so at a 90 degree right angle to create a makeshift tool. Take a flashlight and slip the tool under the seat/cowl, then rotate the coathanger to position the tip of the L down into the mechanism. When you get it into the spot where the barrel on the end of the cable would normally go, pull gently toward yourself, and voila - the mechanism will be unlocked enough for you to remove the seat/cowl.

Sorry I can't post pictures, but if you have a shop manual you can probably visualize what I'm talking about.

Good luck!
