72000 punters turned up to the Donnington round, biggest GP crowd in like forever, maybe not as big as a SBK 100000 turnout, but it must give hope for next years event too?

Was this just a once off popularity thing?
Was the round promoted more than usual?
People turning back to GP racing?

What is the feeling in the UK about MotoGP now, even tho Neil is killing the horse in SBK does has the shine come off that series for UK peeps?

I think it has a lot to do with telivising on terrestrial TV. WSB/ BSB /MotoGP all of these are now constantly on mainstream TV this has really raised the profile and means that the sport is reaching a much wider audiance than just the hardcore motorcyclist.

I know a group of people who went up to see the GP who have never even rode a motorcycle, I think this is getting more common now.

I don't think the rise in Gp popullarity is detrimental to WSB popularity in the UK - if anything I think it helps it. WSB still has the better format for spectators with the two races and superpole, and then of course you got the fact that the brits are dominating at the moment which obviously helps. Brand Hatch is hell of an event. (Im off there again this year http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/banana.gif )

Oh and the good weather at the moment helps to.

Great weekend again this year. Pretty much agree with what has been said.
I dont think Donnignton could take much more than on Sunday. Hopefully one day they will sort out the showers!!!

The event was pushed that little bit more this year,it was being sold on the fact that that well known cokney Valentino Rossi was racing at his home GP.And what Repulsion said about the BBC showing it on Sundays has to be a factor allowing more people to see MGP as a more exciting form of racing than F1, which has always been popular here in the UK,Bike racing seems to be picking up the fans that F1 is losing.

that's the day ticket sales. add onto that the weekend tickets sold and you have 100,000 (according to Kieth Huewen. Or is it Julian Ryder ?? One of the two).

I went on the Saturday but watched the telly coverage on Sunday. Coupl'a pics ?

100000 for the round then is pretty damn good, but yeah I was wondering if the gen pop has been getting with it all, so it sounds like it has with a bit more growth to come, which is a good thing.

Good but Donnington isn't that good to watch at, the circuit is a rip off and viewing is limited even with all of those mounds of earth.

I would watch Moto GP if it wasn't there at Donnington it's not that it's far away from me to travel to I just don't like the place and did fancy seeing Moto GP this year too, but the venue turns me off.

Brands is far better in my opinion. the whole event buzzes.

I can't wait for a week on Sat to be there for the 2 days, even if there are 120,000 others there too....
