I'm doing a favor for a friend mine and I cannot get the axle bolt off of her 2003 Gix 6. Do I need a special tool to get this thing off?

Here is a pic of my axle bolt on my 2000 750. No problem, just used the tool in my tool kit.

Here is her bike. Look at how the axle bolt is recessed. How am I supposed to get that out? There is no special tool in the tool kit for this.

Thanks!

Thanks for the help guys! I just went to Ace Hardware and picked this up for $2.32! The head on the screw is 24mm. I got the axle shaft out with no problems! http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/punk.gif

So it is a 24mm?

You addes two nuts to the bolt to create a "locking" affect? Clever!

Yep 24mm. I can't take the credit though. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif I found it in a search on here. But it works! http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

exactly... i welded a 24mm nut to an old socket that way i can use a torque wrench on it. remember to loosen those pinch bolts. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I used the bolt and 2 nut trick for my R1 too since it is recessed like that. PITA but then again once you loose the axle it comes right out and you dont need that bolt that much http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

damn that is an awesome idea! why didn't i think of that? i had to take my bike in to get my tires changed instead of just the wheels.
