: Looking for self-locking rear axle nut, UK stock piece?

I've gotten the idea that in the UK they don't use an R clip or cotter pin to keep the rear axle nut from coming loose. This is from various pic's, articles, and the like. Is this correct?

I'd like to switch from having to use an R clip to a self-locking nut. This would be so I can use a rear axle slider that uses a rod through the rear axle. I broke off the spindle mounting tab on the left side of my swingarm during a low side crash awhile back. I learned afterward that this isn't uncommon when using spindle/sliders on my bike. I have a 2006 GSX-R1000.

Here are a couple pic's of the broken tab.

Here's a link to the type of rear axle slider I'm thinking of using.

I like the idea of having a slider that will protect things but won't break any more bits off the swingarm in the process. I'm not terribly worried about the nut coming lose as I check things quite often and this type of slider would prevent the nut from coming off as well. The old slider/spindle did protect things from the initial impact but it broke off the mounting tab in the process. I gather this is quite common with this bike.

I may not have clearly stated the point of all this. My idea is to get the UK Suzuki self-locking axle nut if it's less expensive than the after-market variety over here. Assuming of course that such a thing exists. That's what I'm hoping you can help me with.

Fwiw..That is the same set up as Downunder bikes if this is the self locking nut you are talking about.

It is the same nut on both the swingarm axle and swingarm pivot bolt on the Suzuki TL1000 (here).
The difference would be the US TL1000 would get the same castle axle nut and and R clip but should still have the self locker at the swingarm pivot so that might be an easy option to get Stateside.
Not forgetting that nut is only around 10mm thick so you would have some extra thread sticking out from where the R clip was.

Ronayers is saying the same part number for that nut on the US 04 GSXR and TL1000

Item 12 - $16.82

2004 GSXR 09159-25001

97 to 2003 TL1000 09159-25001

The nut is M25 thread / 1.5mm pitch to compare to the GSXR axle.

contact Guido and tell him your from GDC .. i got my Gilles axel nut and it works like a charm..

that nut looks like an 07 gsxr 1k nut and its not a true self locking nut like the Gilles that ensures it wont vibrate off...
