R3DLiN3 06-15-2003, 03:36 PM what companies are you guys using for insurance in ontario. I'm looking to get myself a new gixxer 6 and i've called a few places just for jokes, rbc told me they wanted 10k+ a yr for a bike worth 9700. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
so yha i gota shop around some more.
cuebert 06-20-2003, 07:19 PM I was with allstate for the last little bit, but I just got a nice registered letter that they cancelled my insurance. So I've been riding since the 18th without insurance, and I have to wait 'till monday to start calling around.
I think there's a state farm office in my area that is still writing business, so I'll be checking out them first!
fightin-ry 06-21-2003, 06:17 AM Give this guy a call, he gave me one hell of a deal.
David McConeghy@ 905-945-4807

PHISH 06-24-2003, 07:30 AM Primmum.
cuebert 06-24-2003, 10:52 AM I just switched to State Farm today.. it's all good. Very happy with the quotes I received from them. Roughly 1400/yr FULL coverage... it's only 116/mnth and on my birthday in october, it'll come down to about 59/mnth (708/yr) full coverage.
I listed my car with them as well, considering how good they were with me on the phone and the rates they gave me. Very happy...fuck allstate.. I was pissed.
$40/mth '02 gixxer 600 with State farm and this is my 2nd season riding.

This would be under someone else's policy with them as the primary, or is it because they also insure your Ferrari? http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Don't believe me.... fine I don't care. I know what I'm paying... when I first started with them, it was ~$90/mth at 24, when I turned 25 it dropped 50%.
I have no tickets, no accidents, never made a single claim ... 6 star rating. For bike, car and life insurance I'm paying $140/mth taxes in.
Don't believe me still... don't care. What would I gain by lying?? http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/bitchslap.gif
rimmer 07-12-2003, 05:58 PM You know what they are not telling there agents is that there is still money oweing on the bike ..... or there deductables are over $500.00 or they don't have theft or collision .. there is so many things that they don't have to have ..
I am 28 and I have a 96 zx6r .. and I have 90 in a 50 ticket and a seatbelt ticket and a 15 over ticket .. and had my license suspended 2 times and I am only paying 80/month with full coverage and 500 deductables..
j_mlo_sv1000s 07-13-2003, 03:03 PM Im soo jealous!!! Im 22, perfect driving record and im paying $480 a month for both bike an car.

nutbar 07-15-2003, 02:49 PM I've heard a lot of different stories regarding State Farm - looks like the quotes you get highly depend on the individual agent representing State Farm. You probably lucked out and got an amazing deal http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Also, the rates are a real pain when you're under 25 - the age break is a real price drop and defintely helps (I'm 26). Driving record also - I've just started so my price is about $3k/year which is roughly that $480/mo people always mention.
I could drop off additional coverage and have it down to about $1800 since I bought the bike in full (no requirement imposed on me to get full coverage). This is also sometimes a smart idea, since I know from experience that if you make a claim (especially on an accident where you were the only one involved, so like you just low sided in a tight corner or something), your insurance SKY ROCKETS. You end up paying back the claim money they give you in about a year - nice eh.
So, if you want low rates, try to go with State Farm over Primmum (who re-sells via TD Insurance and some others) since State Farm gives you better deals, but you usually have to have at least car insurance with them too (bundle packages). Also, turn at least 25 - this helps like no tomorrow. So do bike riding courses like stuff from the Canadian Saftey Council (Ottawa Saftey Council here in Ottawa - http://www.motorcyclecourse.ca/). Keep a clean record, don't piss off any cops, and don't get caught doing wheelies as you pass by them and you should be on the road to cheap rates. Riding experience counts too, so after having your full M for a few years your rates should be pretty reasonable.
Smaller CC's also help - there's no way I could afford insurance on a GSX-R 1000, but insurance on a 600 or 750 isn't nearly so bad. Check with the place you decide to go with to see where their cutoff limits are for CC's - remember that 750 is really a 749 http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Just as a side note... a 600 is REALLY 599cc's as that will help lower your rates as well. The bike is now classified in the 500-599 range and is not insured as a 600 super sport....
Do your research guys, it's amazing what you can find out.
nutbar 07-17-2003, 02:39 PM Tyg, where abouts in Ontario are you? If you're in Ottawa, or at least the agent you went with services the Ottawa area, I'd love to know who your agent is/was. I could certainly use the prices you've got! I'm paying about 4-5 times as much as you http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I'm in Cambridge with State Farm Insurance, but she isn't taking anyone new at the moment... something about state farm this year is that they are only taking a certain number of new sign ons per month http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif
Not too sure why they would do that? There is never enough money making in business...
I'll get you her name and number

I was with primmum before i switched to state farm..
I was paying 1600+ for an 01 R6
then they wanted 2400 for an 01 gixxer 1000
so i went to state farm for ~ 1000 for the 1000, had to change my car over though, with was more but overall it still worked out better....
just don't understand all the diff quotes from the same company http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Yeah, I was about to say... Primmum is like *THE* insurance company around here, aside from State Farm (who only seems to insure people with bikes if they also bring over at least a car). I've never heard of $500 a year with Primmum. I'm with a company that re-sells Primmum (for a bit cheaper, go figure) and with my M2, no prev experience, '03 750 with specified perils, theft, etc... (the std deal most people go for), it was around $3200 a year. Oh yeah, and that's WITH a motorcycle course. Oh, and I do have an at fault accident from 3yrs ago on my record, which carries with it a claim (which shall haunt me until I'm 29 http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif)
Austin007 08-02-2003, 08:06 PM Primmum jacked my gixx 1100 rate by $300 this spring, so I went to State Farm with the car & bike and saved a bunch of cash. $785 for the gix750 fire & theft.
