Why doesnt the bank let you use or apply for a card with an ordinary savings account. Maybe its just my bank. But they want let you. They say you have to have checking account to use a card. But a savings account is a account just the same. You put money in you take money out.
Does your bank let you do that or is it a set rule across the board.

i have bank of america and it's the same...They call it a "Savings" account for a reason; it's a place to accumulate money over time and make a small percentage on it. The bank makes money on what you saved because they lend out your money/invest it and make interest on it. That's why you don't earn interest on a checking account that fluctuates up and down, hence they don't want you directly using it like a checking..
...I can transfer money through an atm, over the phone, or at the teller if I need the money in my checking....

Its all about the bank making money. They give you a slightly higher rate on the savings for this reason. I can take money out of my checking or saving by ATM, but if I use it as a debit card, the money comes directly from the checking

yup, the bank counts on you putting money in the checking acct for convenience. then they don't have to pay you interest, or at least less than they would on a savings acct.
