i just ran my credit reports, and they look good. I am just curious of my score. I know that they will all be different (between the 3 bureaus) but if you were going to chose 1 to buy, what one would you get?

thanks :cheers

It doesn't matter. A lender will run all three. The 3 scores are typically within 50+/- points of each other. If you are looking to see how you are increasing or decreasing then just stick with the same scoring model.

i would go with Experian personally

most credit scores i see run are from there...

Yeah, I would tend to agree. But if I rememeber correctly (and I may be wrong) J2T was looking at buying a house at one time or another. In which case they'd run them all. Mortgage brokers typically stick to the middle score unless there is a reason to push a go/no-go decision.

As others have said - most places will average all 3 of your scores. Some places will just use one - so on the basis of wanting one I would go with experian.

I would also check out myfico.com

yes, I will be going for my mortgage approval in about 2 weeks. I have ran my free credit reports to verify no discrepencies. I know that they will run all three, but I am just curious to where I stand.

Or do you think i should just wait, and let the lender do it?

thanks

Hey man,

Doesn't really matter when you run them as nothing will generally change within 2 weeks. If you were to pay off all your credit cards today then it still may take up to 60 days to hit your credit report/score.

Make sure you only pull it from one of the credit reporting websites. Using a secondary company can impact your score. Don't pull your credit now if you are wanting them to pull it in 2 weeks.

What area is your score in? Anything over 600 and you should be fine for a mortgage - but 660+ is necessary for a decent rate.

If you think you are okay why not just let the mortage broker do it? I.e. why pay for it? They will share it with you anyways. If you have a reputable lender and you don't qualify you shouldn't have to pay anything to them for a credit check. It's kind of like paying admin and prep. fees for a new M/C. They may try, but say... ummm... no thanks.

Edit:^^^ Yeah, what he said.

I have no credit card debt, and last year my score was over 700 :punk

I wanted to see what my score is now. I guess it is more of a personal thing than need. But if you guys feel that i should wait, then I will let the lender do it :cheers

When you sit down with the bank official they will tell you your score. Ateast ours did. At third federal they take the lowest score of all 3. Mine was 791 and the wife was 801. I thought mine was higher and she wouldn't live it down for weeks.

checking your credit score personally will have no impact on your score. it is called a soft inquiry meaning it does nothing to you. if a lender checks is then its called a hard inquiry meaning you will lose on average -+5points for each check. however, if you get a loan then you will not lose any points but if you are having different lenders check it and dont get a loan witin 30days then you will lose some points.

trust me my cousin writes loans for a local credit union and he is the one that also determines who gets what loan at what rate

FYI, not sure if it's been mentioned as i rarely read all the replies *lazy fooker*, but if you have a credit card currently, and they offer an online option where you can log in to check your bal, see payment history and what not, many now offer credit viewing options, like personal credit history reports, credit scores updated monthly, and other things like that. I have a Wamu card, and citibank, both offer similar things, and they are free..

I live in KY, here they let us check our reports once yearly for free, some states may be different. But just in case, check www.annualcreditreport.com and see if your state will allow you too!

I've found most west coast lenders use experian while east coast use Equifax.

I tell most people who have credit card fraud or identity theft, to call Equifax to notify them about the fraud occurring on their account. In the East Equifax is the main one we use.
