judging from the curve and the close proximity of the cars, i can't imagine your speed would have been that high, so i don't see the point of getting the knee down. but that's just me. also, in the middle pic, you are so close to the white line that if your knee did touch it would touch in the dirt/gravel//whatever crap is in that little "null zone" before the pavement ends.

don't get me wrong, your form looks pretty good, i just don't think you need to get that far off the bike in low speed turns or get your knee down. maybe you were just doing it for the pic.

i was watching the races this weekend, and i noticed that many of the top guys very rarely put their knee down in the "slower" turns, and sometimes hardly at all, even in the 140mph + curves.

i think alot if times guys put a knee down just for the sake of it. i have found that i can corner at very high speeds without touching a knee; the bike holds it's line very easily provided my weight is shifted to the inside and i control the throttle.

anyways, this is all just my opinion. if i am wrong on any accounts someone feel free to correct me.

It looks like you're trying too hard to get the knee down. Almost like you're forcing it to the ground. Do you have both cheeks hanging off?

It also looks like you're doing pretty good about getting your whole body over, but looks like you're still sitting upright. Try to push your face into the turn more ("kiss the mirror").

i think its one and a half check off the bike, and yeah i try to kiss the mirror, this turn i can do faster with out touching, for some reason when i touch im slower. but i've done it with out ouching faster and i think my lean angle is higher that what this pic shows. it looks like the bike is at 45 deg, lean, but i think i've had it leaned over as far as 50-55 with out touching. just depends on the turn and speed.

thanks for the info so far guys. i got a long way to go still

Long way to go my ass it seems to me like you're already there; don't be so modest lol :D

It's ok Cisco, it's sometimes hard to tell from pics but I can vouch that toy_spd hauls ass up that mountain.

Not sure if there are any race tires you can buy as a mere mortal that are rated at a 55 degree lean angle.
I thought the Michelin race tires top out around 51-52 degrees of lean.

On my pos 02 600, not sure the bike can even go that high. I scrape the bodywork and the side covers. I have a picture, but apparently my work is now blocking photobucket.

your right my dumb ass dont know how to accurately measure lean angle, i looked and it looks like the bike is at 45 and im further out, thats y i think im leaning it further, but i dont have a proper way of accurately knowing what my lean angle is.

Moto GP was until recently 55º and are NOW up to 60º. But that is with 16 and 17.5'' slicks on unobtainium tires and bikes.

Seems to me like 30º at most.

Considering how damn slow people drive in the states, if going fast around the corner, he would eat the pickup by the time he drove 100 feet. :scratch

And.. its a red bike!

I'm no expert, but I have to agree with what everyone else is saying, it seems like you're trying a bit to hard to get the bike over. Seems like it would be better to have the bike do that naturally (ie: to match the speed and such)

im working on making out with the mirror, some turns i've tried not to touch, i just put my knee out and it touches, so im thinking im leaning the bike more since im not sticking out my knee out as much...

i hope to have a somewhat better form than what i currently have for the track day that im signed up for.

Hard to say for sure but it looks like you are forcing it, your knee is supposed to be used as a feeler to gauge your lean angle. It looks here like you are riding it like an outrigger. The fact that you are coming up on slower trafiic means you're probably not going fast enough to necessitate it. Actually it's never really necessitated on the street at all.

they all said it, kiss the mirror and look through the turn.

you should barely be touching the bars, elbow resting on the tank, outside knee pushing in the tank with the foot pushing out on the peg.

if you have that outside knee and foot hooked, you can have your toes perched on the inside peg. with kissing the mirror, you can pull the bike up and down with hardly a hand movement. when practicing, see how upright you can keep the bike while keeping the same speed. your weight needs to be really far on the inside if you're not on stickies at the track.

Fucking track Nazi's :rolleyes

I live in NE TN, about 40 minutes from the Gap (the Gap is the most famous but roads like that are everywhere)

Some of these fucking people act like if you aren't on a track, you should be on a Gold Wing. But if you are on a crotch-rocket on the street, you should never hang off the bike, much less drag knee. :rolleyes

I don't agree with that scenario above (coming up on a slow ass truck and a car coming towards you) but other than that, do your thing brother. Me and my friends ride like that all the time.

Some people act as if you aren't on a track then you must be in the middle of the city. "Track-like" roads are everywhere...enjoy them.

Squid...

Seriously though, too close to cars with getting knee down. That is unless the truck you were following was seriously tearing up some pavement!:cheers

Don't fight the knee down thing. I've gone around corners at 120+ with more lean than that, and not worried about my knee. It'll come naturally.

I wouldn't say that. There's really nothing wrong with hanging off. In fact I feel awkward trying to corner in a neutral body position. Hanging off the bike allows you to corner with less actual lean of the bike itself. The more upright you stay on the bike the more you have to lean it to get it through the corner at otherwise the same speed because sitting upright raises the bike's center of gravity.

But when hanging off on the streets I typically have my knee tucked up against the bike, I don't make any sort of effor to make contact on the street. If I did I'd probably be pretty dangerously low (for the street) to the ground which I try to avoid since I don't trust most road conditions.

^^ +1 Even if it's not a fast corner I still feel comfortable hanging off especially when it's one of those corners that suddenly tighten. I just feel more stable and in control. IMO leaning only gets your bike to turn so much..... a lot has to do with your upper body position and your head. So there's nothing wrong with hanging off. FYI I only hang half a cheek off during moderate speed corners and that's usually enough.... faster speed corners I hang 1 cheek off. I don't see how some people can hang more than that.... I feel like I'm going to fall off.

I use the front tyre as a gauge to how far I can lean and how far I have been leaning...
