doing a track day in a couple of weeks and my bike has about 200 miles on it. going to ride the stock tires and will replace with a street/track specific tire when they are worn. until then, has anyone ridden on the track with stock tires and if so, any comments on tire warm up time and overall performance? (i.e. tacky enough to drag knees?)

thanks.

have you dragged knee on another bike? if not you probably wont be dragging knee your first time anyhow

this will be my third year on the track and i am still on my first set of knee pucks so it's not a huge priority of mine. my question is for those that have ridden stock tires on the track, have they been ok, or are the tires absolute garbage? i'll find out anyway, i'm just interested in a preview, that's all.

well i cant answer to be honest...i dont ride track and sure as hell still cant get my knee down( getting close but like you said its not a priority) especially since i ride the street this isnt a big issue to me but its just something that will happen when my skill allows it. as for the tires...id say you could if they were properly heated...but of course you wont feel as confident(sp?) as you would with good tires..butim gonna say yeah it could be done easily but a better tire would make you feel better about it. thats all i know...

That depends on how good you are. I've been told by much more experienced riders with much much better skills say that they're just fine.

If you're a new rider and you intend to drag knee and go fast then they'll probably be garbage.

You will be fine. Today's street tires have great adhesion and very short warm up times. Take it easy for the first or second lap, then show em what time it is!

I have a few friends that either race or have track bikes that actually like and use the battlax..

I had the stocker Dunlop 218 on the front (1100 miles) and a Dunlop D208 on the rear (150 miles). I was draggin knee all day long.

Don't use that crap rubber at the track...

ive seen guys run decent times on stock rubber. if finances dictate stock rubber then just be aware that you wont have the grip or the lean angle that you will get out of better tyres. but then if yoou dont go to the track much then your set up wont necesarily be worth the 300$(or whatever it costs you) a set of race rubber is going to cost you.

but that doesnt mean you wont have a great time.
