How many miles do you have? Your clutch may not be adjusted properly.

It shifts fine after i ride it out after the stops....Would the temp. of the bike be a factor....I have about 6,500 mi on her..

It always shifts easier when it's moving. Temp won't affect it. Do you keep it in gear at a stop?

thats all bikes at a stop. try rolling it forward, or backwards, and then slam it into 1st.

if i understand you, when you're at a dead stop in N, it won't pop into 1st or 2nd right?

Why do you want to change gears at the stop lights? You should be stopping already in first gear.

The gearbox won't shift if its not spinning on any bike. If you leave it in neutral with the clutch out when your stopped, you won't have an issue putting it into gear as the gearbox is spinning. If you just sit their with the clutch in while its in gear for long enough the input shaft stops spinning, and if it doesn't just happen to line up with the next gear you won't be able to shift. If you fan the clutch and rock the bike back and forward a bit you can get it shift.

well thats sux for us then cuz i don't know of any shop who can do it on island...the one "cycle" store forgot to clean and lube my chain and since when does an oil change cost 165 bucks?(i am an idiot :hammer)

i asked 'em to inspect my frame, check suspension, and retorque the bolts listed in the service manual and the invoice came back as "tightened fairing bolts". doubt they even looked at the rest of the shit i asked them to...no more tho shit i'll find time to work on my bike from now on!!
