: Problem with fast idle

Seems like I have a problem with my fast idle. There is none. I have a 2005 600 and when I start the bike it immediately idles at 1400rpms. It does not raise any higher when the bike is cold, regarless of the outside temperature. The bike runs fine when warmed up but I need to constantly give it some gas untill it reaches operating temperature.

I know there is a fast idle adjustment but the manual says that there is usually no need to adjust this. I guess the proper way to adjust it is to buy the test harness and adjust the screw till the voltage is correct. My question is, is it OK to experiment with the adjustment or should I buy the harness and do it correctly?

Has anyone else had this issue and if so was it just the adjustment or did you have to replace a sensor of some sort?

Thanks in advance.

Do you have the service manual for your bike? I suggest getting one and it will show you how to do this correctly :) You dont need a harness

I actually have the manual and it says to hook up the test harness and take voltage readings and adjust till voltage is within the proper specs. Thanks for your reponse.

Sorry dude, I looked everywhere I could but I couldn't find for what 2 wires that test harness tapped into. From the wiring diagram, it looks like the voltage you want to check on the TP sensor is the P/B to B/Br. Red looks like common power, and B/Br looks like common ground. If it's not P/B and B/Br (pink/black stripe, black/brown stripe) then it will be P/B and Red.

The procedure looks pretty easy and if you've got a digital DC volt meter, you can cheat. Take 2 thin sewing needles. Push one through one wire, and one through the other to take your readings (gator clips help). When you pull the needles out, the holes will pretty much seal themselves. But a little electrical tape band-aid over the holes doesn't hurt.

Kewl Bro, thanks! I think I saw the harness on Ron Ayers for $53 and I really don't want to spend that on a wire harness. If I had the pin-outs I could probably make my own. Thanks for the info.
