ok. i spent some time in the streetfighter section here reading up on what the fighter is, looking at the pictures, reading the mods questions, etc, and envy each and every one of you for your awesome rides.........

i think that building a fighter is something i would like to do eventually, but i dont really know where to start (other than with a bike...) i guess my questions are more technical. i don't have a huge understanding of how to work on a bike, or what makes better weight to power ratio or things like that, but love to take things apart, make them better, etc. (love that 'i did this' feeling from making something)

where can i get good info on doing these types of things? reccomnded books, websites, manuals, anything to understand exactly what would make a good streetfighter, well, good, and how to build one or anythign along the lines of basic knowledge one would need to start a project like this.

thanks in advance.

Personally I'm gonna start with the upgrading and tidying of what is already there, don't wanna strip the fairing off and have a tatty looking engine on show.

Brakes first as they come in handy, braided hoses.
I have just won an auction on a twin silencer exhaust, so that'll be fitted as soon as it comes.
Renew all the rusty mucky bolts with some nice titanium ones.
K&N air filter and Factory pro jet kit with dynotime.
Either fit an aftermarket shocker or some shorter dog bones to raise the rear.
Bar risers and Renthals.
Plan the removal and addition of aftermarket light setup.
Powder caoting or polishing of frame and wotnots.
Then possibly a new rear end.

I'm on a tight budget so gotta keep my mods cheap.

Would love to do more engine work but it's out my price range at the mo and I'm just learning about the technical stuff.

just buy Streetfighters mag go to bike events and look around. Chose your model and get to work. I just wanted a new look and moved in the Streetfighter direction. The full fairings and tank are in the loft in case I get bored and want to go back to that look http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/yumyum.gif

I just watched ebay all winter and bought loads of bits cheap and spend 100's of hours getting to what I wanted, it's not great but.yes 'I did it' and on a budget too. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/squid.gif

My parts to convert were cheap and time is free , well after work............. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
