I just had my '97 750 rejetted and the technnician said that the gauges go in and out. All the lights work fine but the gauges are sometimes on sometimes off.

I know the wire connectors are not waterproof and they could be corroded. Does anyone have any idea's why this would be happening and how I can fix it?

The dealer said to go through each connection and check to see if it's green or corroded and apply some conducting gel, then c if it works. keep doing that for each connection until something changes. if nothing does then i may have to get a new fucking wire kit for at least my gauages if not the whole stupid bike.

Left hand side of the bike mate there's the large connector protected by a rubber cone-like cover. Additionally there's a small green connector but with about 7 or 8 little wires using it.

I bet that this little green'un is the culprit. Get some spray in there and make sure you have a good connection and then tape the bugger up.

Thanks dan uk!

I sprayed some wd-40 in the green connector this morning and rode to class (5-10min ride) and the gauges worked fine and the fuse was in new condition. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/banana.gif

Now I just need to figure out why my right side H4 bulb (when you're sitting on it) is a lot brighter than the left side. Any ideas to fix this would be great, thx for any help http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I'm curious as to what you come up with as I am having similar problems. Two months ago my left headlight blew out. I replaced it with the identical bulb, and then one week later it just went out. I checked it, and the bulb was fine. So for a month or so now I have been riding with just the right. Now a couple of days ago it just switched sides on me. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/wtf.gif So now the left light is lit, but the right is out. Strange right!? Also, my backlight for the speedometer has been non-existent for 6 weeks now. It would be nice if it is just the bulb, but with my luck... Hoping some good info comes in on this post!

Actually there is some new developments.

Later the same day I sprayed some WD-40 into the green connector the fuse popped again. I bought a pack of 5 15A fuses and everyone has popped. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/bash.gif
My only option now is to go though the wiring w/ an ohm meter and test eveything and figure out where the ground is shorting out. And yes i'm almost 100% positive it's shorting out, just not sure where in the wiring it's shorting. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

After that I have to figure out why one of my headlights is about twice as bright as the other. I really need my brakes/turn lights funtional as well as a tach and speedo working ASAP, f*cking finals are keeping my ass on the run though so the bike will have to take the back seat for one more week http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cry.gif
