Hey. Every year, the Rhode Island Air National Guard holds an open house / airshow at their facilities at Quonset Point, Ri. Addmission is free, and theres a small donation for parking. It is a GREAT time for anyone that has never been, and I'de like to organize a ride. They have many demonstrations, from paratroopers, to a half dozen fighter aircraft, and even a mock battle. In the past, one of the two stealth aircraft made unscheduled appearances. This year the Blue Angles will be there as the highlight, they are a close-formation air tactical demostration group flying in the F/A 18 Hornet jets. There are also many static (non-flying) demonstrations, a ton of food and anything else you could imagine.
The dates are Saturday June 28 and Sunday the 29. It runs preety much all day, but the earlier we get there, the less traffic and shorter lines getting in. (They do a security check, so leave your personal M16 at home, just ask to borrow an MP's if you wish to play) I got there like 1/2 hrs before the gates opened last year, and didnt have a problem with parking or long lines. So with this event being almost two months away, I'de like to organize a huge ride down there for anyone interested.
Now to keep this as organized as possible, since we all like to get off subject in posts, feel free to post it here, but also PM me with your email, and ill keep a big list going and send updates out that way, unless anyone objects.
This will be a great way to show our support for our troops, these are kids younger than all of us dying for a contry that, in some aspects, we shouldnt care about. We could leave Iraq now that we have done the job, but these kids are making someone else's life better! http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/applause.gif

I have been the last two years in a row. And they give bikes v.i.p. parking right up front at the entrance gate http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif But I don't think too many people know about it because there is always room for more bikes and on the way out I always see bikes in other lots further away It is kinda tricky you have to follow the vip route the MP's will let you through if your on a bike but if your in a car they will not let you through without a pass http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

I was just gonna say that.
I've gone for the past 4 or 5 years, my dad was in the RI Guard, and they have a special section for the bikes.
But like you said, not everyone seems to know about it.
There's always a couple of bikes scattered out in the crowd of cars.

For the past couple of years we've just sat on our boat, docked at Allen's Harbor(right down the road from the airport), and watched the show.
It's great watching all the planes turn right over your head.
If I go to the acutal show, I'll try to grab some pictures of all the bikes. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Im writing in response to your interest in attending the National Guard Air Show in R.I.

From past experiance the Saturday Show is much better than Sunday, so that would be June 28'th. And the earlier the better, Im not sure about you guys, but I hate getting stuck in traffic on the bike. Since the gates open at 9, So I'de like to plan on being there by 8, so I'de like to set up some meeting places accordingly. Again, if people want to change that, please let me know. I think Home Depot is convenient for almost everyone, just grab 95 and head down there, bout a 45 minute ride.
So, Saturday, June 28th, at 7 at Home Depot? How does that sound?

No, but traffic is a slut the later you go, and i dunno how MP's handle lane-splitting, I dont wanna find out either.

gixboy600
06-27-2003, 06:16 AM

OK so let's make the final plans here. Who's in for meeting at 7 at Home Depot, leave by 730. That gets us there by 830, just before the traffic will really start getting heavy. Im down for it, objections? Comments? Questions?
