I split my tongue in half two days ago and now this! Grrr!!! Cagers aren't looking out for bikes yet. Or anything for that matter. He didn't even look.
Well, I was going straight after taking a right turn on green and a kid in the parking lot on the right did not look and pulled right out in front of me taking a left so quickly that he blocked the whole lane so there was no evading him(he only had his permit by the way). I was going about 5-15 mph and grabbed a nice handful of brake and flipped my bike. Did a nice 12 o'clock endo but forward momentum kept me going. I was wearing all my gear so my helmet is messed up, gloves are scuffed on the palms from bracing myself so my head didn't get crushed, and my jeans are embedded with tar. Lucky for me I only sprained my big toe, wrist, and a small patch of rash on my knee.
Went out and checked over the bike this morning and besides scrapes on the front fairing, windscreen, right side, tail, exhaust, and no mirror, the bike seems to be fine. No cracks, no frame damage that I can see(scratches, dents, etc...) I looked over the whole bike 3-4 times, felt around, inspected tires, wheels, steering, etc... Started her up and the exhaust doesn't sound that great(a little deeper than normal). There is some really light white smoke that comes out when I rev it up. I took her out on the road and she rides fine. No shaking or other noises. I rode at about 30mph and let off the handlebars and it rode straight so the forks seem to be fine. No oil leaking from them or anything like that.
So my question is with all this info about what happened what should I check? Even obvious stuff let me know what I should go over. Should I check the plugs, air filter, etc... for oil? Any input would be appreciatted as I am new to the whole crash thing. Any little thing at all. After I check it over a couple more times I'm still going to take it over to a repair shop for a second opinion but would like to check it out myself a few times first.
All in all I feel pretty lucky. I only sprained a few things, no broken bones, and as it looks right now I'm only going to need a mirror and windscreen to be able to ride until the kids insurance send me a check.

Dingo, I'm sorry to hear about that. Did you hurt your fist on the kids face?

It would be worth it to check the plugs.

First, I would strip all of the plastics and tank off of the bike and do a complete check of everything with my hand and a flashlight.

Second, When you take the plugs out, do compression checks of each cyllinder to make sure you didn't do any damage in the engine. White smoke could be residual fluid from the bike being inverted or it could be a hairline crack in the head which allows coolant and oil to mix.

Third, Since you have a slight change in exhaust note, you may want to pull the can off and take a peek down into the pipe. Some fluid, oil or gas may have made it's way down into the pipe which could cause both of these symptoms.
I can't remember if you have an aftermarket exhaust or not, of course that would make this check easier.

Given the hazards of motorcycling, his insurance company may be required to pay for you to have the bike inspected by a dealer to make sure there is no hidden damage. Even so, If it were me I would probably do the above checks myself, just for piece of mind.

2 reasons to do these checks..

1. Your own safety and confidence while riding.

2. If you did damage the engine or anything else and you don't notice it before his insurance company makes payment. You could end up S-O-L

As far as what everyone recommended, I took all the plastics off and the gas tank and everything seemed good. Opened the airbox, no gas/oil in there, took it off while I was down there and did the PAIR MOD. Made sure the airbox was on tight and then proceeded to put everything back together. No more white smoke so like some people said(and I thought), just some oil burning off perhaps. My street is deserted so I took her out for a ride and she rides straight even with no hands. After I was satisfied with going straight I started leaning it from one side of the road to the other to test out the handling characteristics. Still leans like a bastard! http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I'm feeling pretty good. Other than some very minor cosmetic scratches she runs and drives perfect. I'm gonna have the frame/subframe looked at just to make sure it isn't tweaked before I go riding again. His insurance will be paying for EVERYTHING. Someone else said to check the FAIRING STAY for cracks or bends. Could someone tell me what and where that is located? I'm not the brightest bulb...THANKS GUYS!!

Sorry to hear that Dingo, just be thankful that you can still talk to us about it. Keep us posted on how you make out. Hopefully you'll have her back to normal soon. Well, did you hurt your hand on the kid's face or what????

No didn't get a chance for a coupe reasons:
1) they(meaning about 12 people standing around me) wouldn't let me get up
2) I looked over while I was laying there and the kid was leaning up against his car crying.

I can't hit a crying boy. It just wouldn't be right...

correct me if I'm wrong but you're model doesn't have a fairing stay...they stopped putting those on the gixxer when they changed the body style in 01...oh, and glad to hear that you're generally ok...and the bike too...good luck with all that insurance bs and hopefully the bike will be %100 or close to it soon...

What a shitty week you are having man. This is no way to start the season. The good news is your luck can only get better from here. I think?. Didn't you just get a nice new Suzuki Jacket too? Did it get rashed also?

BTW I am originally from Rockland and used to ride all over Abington on my dirtbikes when I was younger. We used to ride alot over near Stones' and the old train depot.

Sorry about your wreck bud.

Yeah, just got the jacket. It's good, no rash. I hit the ground with my palms and rolled to the side so just my gloves got a little scuffed. My helmet's fine except when I was laying there I took it off and pushed it to the side so my visor got all scratched up. Are you talking about the Stones store near the center(with the post office and all around there)? If so, I live right behind the coin-op laundry mat on the corner of that road(rt139) on Charles St.

let me correct myself...it does have a fairing stay...it's just way more concealed than the 2000 model...instead of it jutting out, it's tucked in...that akward fairing stay was actually one of the only things I didn't like about the 97-2000 models
