: Pit Bull stand question
Jax Gixxer 09-27-2006, 08:43 PM Hey all, I'm having a real problem getting my 06 gixxer 750 up on the rear stand by myself. I have to get my son to hold the bike straight up so I can grab the spools with the stand. How do you do this by yourself??? And how do you get it off the stand by yourself? thanks in advance, Jeff
Higgs Boson 10-05-2006, 09:56 PM put your shoulder under the tailsection and grab the bike and hold it upright. you should already have one side of the stand under a spool. fit the other side under and you can get out from under the tail and let the stand balance the bike. then lift.
RussZTT 10-05-2006, 10:05 PM I have the stand between the bike and myself. Grab the tail section of the bike to get it up straight. Hold the bike with one hand and use the other to guide the stand under the spools then push down on the stand :cheers
Higgs Boson 10-05-2006, 10:20 PM yeah that's the right way if you have confidence you won't drop it to the right!
embphb 10-06-2006, 08:26 PM I’m about to order one myself and was wondering, would it be easier to do it by yourself if you got the rear stand with the forward handle?
Avplayer 10-06-2006, 10:06 PM jsut stnad next to the bike and witht he bike slightly leanin on ur left leg, use ur free hand to put the stand under the spools and lift
Wheeelieboy 10-07-2006, 06:14 PM Make sure that the adjustable spool lifters on the pitbull that you have is gapped correctly. If you gap them slightly larger than it needs, it would also make lining up the lifters easier, while you are ba;ancing the bike from the tail.
gsxrmike 10-22-2006, 11:39 PM Yep, line up the arms with the spools first, then just stand behind the bike, grab the tail with your left hand, grab the handle of the stand with your right, and put it in. Just use some muscle, it can never hurt.

i have heard from a lot of people that have that style that, although it makes it easier to lift the bike once you've got it lined up on the spools; getting int lined up on those spools is a pain in the balls as compared to the standard rear pointing handle type. :scratch

Bike on sidestand, IN GEAR!
Stand directly behind bike, engage left side spool and make sure stand is lined up straight.
Press *slowly* down on stand with right hand. As bike comes toward vertical, watch right spool alignment. If you need to roll the stand fore or aft to align the right spool, STOP pushing, hold what you've got, reach forward with your LEFT hand from the side and balance the bike at the rear seat/handle/whatever. THEN adjust the stand so the right-hand spool aligns.
When both spools are engaged, just power it up.
To take OFF stand, stand on the left side facing the bike, a little bit further back than you would if you were putting a bike on a built-in centerstand.
Side stand DOWN, bike IN GEAR!
With your right hand, reach down and begin lifting the stand handle SLOWLY. As the rear wheel touches down, use your left hand to guide the bike toward you and a bit to the rear as it settles on the sidestand.
Some people put the sidestand up on a 2x4 block before putting the bike up, but I don't find it necessary. This approach works for me with swingarm stands, too, though it's a bit more fiddly getting that right pad adjusted with one hand.
:cheers

GIXXERDK 10-23-2006, 02:30 AM You can also put a block or a brick under the kickstand to even it out more
You can also put a block or a brick under the kickstand to even it out more
Or just get a gym membership :D
Really, you can line up the stand first, then get the bike upright and push down with your foot. Not hard at all when you get the technique down
xDJxKLUSIVEx 10-24-2006, 02:31 PM align the one side first and get it in there eyeball the other side stand on the side push the bike upright with ur hip or leg and push down on the stand untill both arms and locked into the spool and just push down i do it alone front and back all the time u wont drop it unless ur on uneven ground
lambo 11-06-2006, 03:04 AM this should come in handy
Jax Gixxer 11-13-2006, 12:17 AM thanks for all the tips! i'm currently away from my bike but will try these when i return home....again, thanks!!!!!
dim_sum 11-14-2006, 05:19 PM Stands are a great investment especially if you work on your bike.....
Alatus 11-14-2006, 11:40 PM Jesus. I weigh 145 lbs and am so skinny I only got one side and I can still do this. You don't need a gym membership - you just need to DO IT. It ain't hard, you just gotta hang onto the bike... sheesh! :D (for the record, it waaaay helps having another person to be your 'pit bitch'...):lol
GSXRSE7EN 12-18-2006, 08:17 PM With everyone else away from my bike, I place a block under the kickstand that places the bike almost vertical, just enough to keep it leaning on the kickstand, then place the stand under the spools and it is pretty easy lift up. My thinking is if you are just trying to lift up, it is easier than trying to lift the left side to get the bike vertical, without droping the bike, and then lift the wheel off the ground.
nebgsxr 12-28-2006, 11:56 AM seems like people have pretty much the same idea I do, except for a little more balance I reach across the tail and grab the right side with my left hand and use my forearm resting on the tail to move/balance the bike....gives a little more fine balance adjustment than if you grabbed the tail with your hand and had to jerk it around, and use my right to manuver the stand.
Mr645 01-08-2007, 09:05 AM I use forward level stand w/ spools. Saves me space in the garage. Great stand but when going up, you have to stop 1/2 way to put up the sidestand because the forward lever hits it if it is down. Not really a big deal but it would be nice if it cleared. I also replaced the stock PB wheels with casters so I can move my bike agaist the wall, sideways.

funnystuff619 02-26-2007, 09:39 PM OR,
put kick stand up, balance bike on two tires, get behind her with the stand, line it up, and wedge it up.
no need to touch her after u got her balanced.
haha.
really though, just line it up, wedge it up slowly and adjust the stand accordingly as it comes up. never need to touch the bike, only when ur putting her down.
frank2 08-13-2007, 06:29 AM Stand directly behind the bike. Take off passenger seat or the seat cowling. Position the rear stand between yourself and the bike. Reach into where the seat came off. There is a crossmember there, part of the frame. Grab with your left hand. With your left hand stand the bike upright, side stand is still down. Carefully line up the spools with the stand. Once the stand is partially engaged, the bike will stabilize. Still holding the crossmember, push down on the stand's handle. It will be hard at first, then it will go right up. Remember to put your sidestand down when lowering off the stand. To lower, same steps in the reverse.
shellt0es 08-15-2007, 10:31 PM still going huh? (2) 2X4's screw together and cut to a reasonable size(4 or 5 inches), slip it under kickstand to upright the bike, walk over, get my stand, place under spools and lift. no worries of tipping it to the right
spyda1000 09-03-2007, 10:20 AM it's a little tricky at first. after the 2nd or 3rd time. you'll do it without effort.
