: Has anyone tried the Shinko Tires ?
MrWicked1k 09-21-2006, 08:44 AM I went to one of the local shops yesterday and they had a full rack of them . They are REALLY cheap in price and remind me of the Yokohamas ( YES Yokohamas )that I raced on ONCE in 86 and crashed my brains out when they let go ! Talk about ZERO FEEDBACK it was like BAM SKY DIRT SKY DIRT ? Could have been me though ? :hammer
diel11 09-21-2006, 09:02 AM Local guys use those for drag racing here in Dallas. I usually stick with michelins since I don't drag.
MrWicked1k 09-21-2006, 09:09 AM I will stick with the mainstream tire companies too !
wtchtwr 09-21-2006, 09:47 AM I had some on my EX250 - I dont think I would put them on the bike unless I was doing a leisurely track day or commuting. I dont think I would trust them pushing it hard.
P.s. How much were they?
mikeb12 09-21-2006, 09:57 AM hell no. bodywork is pricey
fugitiveorphan 09-21-2006, 10:00 AM if you're looking for a cheap tire with great feedback, a lot of the mountain riders here are checking out the continental sport attacks. They're getting tons of mileage out of them, too. And they're only half the cost of michelins and dunlops.
SPL170db 09-21-2006, 10:26 AM I've only ever heard of Shinko tires being used by drag racers and ugly stretched Busa's. That profile of the tire doesn't look too aggressive for ease of cornering. I think it's probably designed to get more contact in the straight line.
I wouldn't run them even if they are cheap. I don't want cheap tires on a 1K.
TubeDriven 09-21-2006, 10:56 AM Two things I never skimp on, tires and helmets.
Bagherra 09-21-2006, 05:03 PM I blew a rear tire and all the shop had was a Shinko. Used it for about 200 miles and took it off. Couldn't really trust it in the corners. Stick with mainstream tires.
po-po 5.0 09-21-2006, 05:19 PM If my local cycle gear carries them I might give their supersport (005) tire a shot. Last time I was there they only had the "drag" tire.

Whats the difference between having cheap tires on a 1k or 600? I think the 6's need just as much grip as a 1k especially when they are passing you on the outside of a turn!! :wait
wtchtwr 09-22-2006, 12:20 PM Expensive = better tire? :lol
You street guys talk about grip and you have 1" chicken strips...
Would I race on a track with them? Depends - Would I try them on the street if they were $100 for a set? You bet!!!
Some people are so blind...

Yeah I uses a set of those Yokohamas ONCE as well!:lol At Oak Hill...... :scratch man talk about lack of feedback and grip! I was never slower at that track than the day I used those tires!:ohmy
Oh and I do believe Shinko is Yokohama...;)
smokeuu 09-22-2006, 03:31 PM i use them and love em. great drag tire or everyday tire depending on the compound you go with. i use the ulta soft for dragracing.
jchan 09-23-2006, 01:55 PM 2 of my riding buddies are using the 005 Advanced Radial for his front/rears and loves them. Got them for about $160/set. One of them takes corners pretty good with them and seems to trust them. Hes got a lot bigger balls than most of us riding in the street like he's doing trackdays and they seem to hold up pretty well for him.

jentink 09-25-2006, 12:56 PM I'm on my 2nd set of 009's. Love them. Don't do track days, though. I do know that gripwise, they're way better than the mez4's i used to use. And those died after 2800 miles. My shinko's are currently at 7000 (and needing a change).
ridenow.com has great prices on them. (about $130 before shipping)
easter bunny 09-25-2006, 01:43 PM If I remember right Shinko makes tires for golf carts, wheelbarrows, go-karts, lawn tractors, bicycles and just about everything else on the planet. I have no idea how the tires stack up against the mainstream, but it's not like they don't know what they're doing.
mike-s 09-25-2006, 02:15 PM the treads come in 000's 003's 005's and 009's
000 is the supersoft dragracing tyre, 003 the sports tyre, the 005 the semi soft and the 009's the touring compound. The local guy didn't stock 005's as they've had some problems with them and balance so i got 003's for my RF. given its my first big grunty bike (i've been stuck with gt501's and bt 45's on my old bikes) they seem reasonable.
However i'd be able to give more feedback after i get my license back.
badass1000 09-25-2006, 08:39 PM I run a 003 ultra soft on the rear and a pirellie diablo corsa 120/60 on the front for drag racing. You can't get a better tire for the price for drag racing. They hook good, last a long time, and are cheap. I know guys that run them down to 8.3's. That is about their limit though and the track needs to be preped good to run that.
I run them on my turbo 1000 at 64" up to about 14psi of boost and it sticks with a decent track prep. They will hook up to 17psi of boost if the the track is prepped really well.
I run around 9-10psi in them at the track and 15 psi on the street. I am going to turn it up to 17psi for the last couple races of the year to try to run some really good number so I am mounting a mickey mcr2 tire on it soon.
I will be getting another rim and running the shinko when the track is prepped really well and on the street.
On the street on my droped and extended bike that I obviously do not try to rail corners on.
i have had a friend with the 005's on his R6 and hated them.
I don't know about the others and I am not going to try them on my street bike. I just got set of the corsa 3's for my 06 1000 street bike.
