got my first bike, 97' gix600.. .
i had a lot of q's to ask but the stickies answered most of em.. .

the fairings and front is off so i can work on it, i plan on gettin a full tuneup and some new tires, so far ive only had 2 recommendations, bridgestone bt010/020 and metzeler sport tec m1.. . do these sound right?

also does anyone have alarm on their bikes? any specific kind of fairing protectors?

i have a lot to learn and itll be a bit before i actually ride this thing but i aprreciate any input.

I had a 97 600..see my sig pic...

Either tire will work fine, the bt 010's will last longer...and still work fine for that spirted ride in the twisties, or a track day...as for frame sliders/protectors..Intuitive makes the best imho..get some swingarm sliders as well...never had an alarm...do a search on alarms, use gen. Bike talk as the forum..or 96-99 SRADS...

Oh..and welcome to the boardz... http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I've worked with alarms for years. Circuit City sells a nice alarm built especially for a motorcycle. It's made by Audiovox and costs about $120.

Welcome to the board....

And as always...my .02 on securing your bike.

If you don't have a garage and can't roll it up the stairs to the apartment, go rent a cheap storage unit for 15 - 20 /month. An alarm won't stop 3 guys in a pickup truck from taking your bike. And chaining it to the rim of your car won't stop them from taking the rim with them. I know from bad experience.

Welcome to the boards. If you havent already look into a motorcycle safety course they are well worth the $. And just keep an eye out for parts Might be able to pick up some plastics for a decent price on here or www.esportbikes.com (http://www.esportbikes.com) also might check into www.ronayers.com (http://www.ronayers.com) but probally hard to find plastics because thats what most people wreck in a crash http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cry.gif I just keep looking at what i want and comparison shop and every once and awhile a really good deal shows up.

those are ' the best ' tires...
i currently have m1's on the gixx..
but i'll be returning to the bt010's ..i LOVED those tires..had the best feel for my riding style and gave me plenty of confidence going into the turns..my m1's are nice, real sticky and still stable in the twistys, but i felt the bridgestones were best for me..good luck! http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
