Hi, I'm thinking of moving to the Austin area, and am looking into police departments. Besides Austin PD what are the county departments? Are there any sheriffs departments?

Right now I'm just in the beginning stages of looking, but I'd like to come out in the spring to check out some houses, see what neighborhoods are nice, etc. Any help is appreciated.

Are u looking directly at Austin or surrounding areas? There is Travis County Sheriff's Dept., which is where Austin is located. There is Hays County, south of Austin, which includes Kyle,TX, Buda,TX and San Marcos, TX. Then north of us is Williamson County. In WillCo is Round Rock, TX and Pflugerville,Tx(pronounced 'Flugerville'). I hoped that helped u some. Great place to live by the way.

What he said... there are tons of municipalities around these parts. City cops in Austin and every surrounding town (Austin, Round Rock, Georgetown, Pflugerville, Cedar Park, Kyle, etc.) then sheriffs for each county, etc.

There's also the Texas Department of Public Safety troopers, whom patrol the highways.

Warm weather......ha ha ha. I like that description of the weather here. Also, don't let me forget, Sunset Valley PD, Westlake PD, Lakeway PD and there is still more around here.

Wow, thanks that's what I was looking for. Like I said, I'm in the beginning stages of looking into this move so I'm unfamiliar with the area but I'm looking for a department where I'll be busy, can you guys suggest where to start looking first?

If you handled NM, you can handle it. A little more humid in Austin sometimes, but not that bad. I love it, perfect weather for my summer pastime, wakeboarding.

A few other surrounding towns, Jonestown, Lago Vista (both small.)

If you want to be busy, I'd say pick a larger city -- Austin itself, or maybe Round Rock. The area is growing big time, so I can't imagine you having a problem finding work in that field.

The job I'd want -- lake patrol. :thumbup

I would try to name more, but I think they were all list.

One possible correction, I think the Westlake PD might be called Rollingwood PD. I am not possitive though.

There is actually both, Westlake PD and Rollingwood PD.
