hey all,

finally got the letter saying i recieved six demerit points on P's from the man :nono and that they are so nice as to let me choose whether i lose my licence for 3 months, or be on 1 point for 12. Just wondering if theres any danger doing the 3 month suspension? A friend reckons that if i go with this options it is worse for future insurance application etc., but then the lady at the piggy bank said both options will show up equally.:confused

Just so you know id rather the 3 months since i dont really need to drive atm and ill be overseas for a big chuck of that time.

Anyway, comments/advice/abuse welcome :cheers Tim:D

i've had problems getting insurance for both my bike and car ever since i had my license suspended about 2 years ago. on the other hand tho, 1 year is a very long time to spend with only 1 demerit point, i'd probably get done in that time and lose it anyway.. I'd go the 3 months if you going to be OS for most of it.

Here's the trick, and it's been verified by a Highway Patrol Copper mate.

Take the 3 months. Keep riding until the coppers pull you over and ask why you are still riding. Say that you didn't get the letter saying your licence has been canceled. You get one warning, and one only. Don't do anything that you can get pulled over for and you can still ride through your cancellation period.

That's the deal in NSW. What state are you from?

I have also heard the exact same thing from a HWP copper.
That 1 warning is recorded on the coppers computers.

Hey thanks for all the help guys, im in QLD. ill do the 3 months i think, since ill only be here for 1.5 of them, and ill mostly be driving my grandpa style Datto 260c or a truck when i NEED to use a vehicle to move my stuff into storage.

and Shane I got caught doing 92 in a 60 zone out at Karalee by an unmarked car. This is out near Ipswich where my parents live, I had my mum on the back for the first time, and this road is about 10 metres wide, no houses no trees and apparently locals have been trying to get the council to make it an 80 zone for the past 6 months... and Dad tells me theres been piggy banks there the past 5...

ok all thanks again,
Tim

I took the 3 month option when I got done a couple of years back. 3 months goes a lot quicker than 6months, and chances are you`ll lose a point somewhere in the next 12months if you take that option...

It didnt affect my insurance to my knowledge either :)

I took the 1 point for 12 months option, and somehow got thru it, more luck than anything else, and a stressful 12 months. but considering that 1 warning for the 3 months oprion, i'd def take that next time.

I took the 3 month option too. It goes by fairly fast.

Yep, I did the same thing here in VIC years ago, worked a treat, just threw the letter away like it never existed and kept driving, happy to plead ignorance if I was caught.

i'd take the 1 point. i lost mine a few years ago and it affects insurance for 5 YEARS afterwards (i.e its bloody hard to get insurance, and its more expensive).

Just have some self control, go to the drags, trackdays and the like.

Id think both would effect insurance basically the same. It all really depends on if you have other transport, like a car, cause then you could in theroy take the 3 months loss of licence. Other wise if you have a job and can't lose your bike licence (like me) you'd prolly have to take the 12 months and 1 point.

Then you have to think about what's better value to you... seeing as we now get one warning on the loss of licence, you'd really deserve to be busted if you still got cought doing illegal shit twice in 3 months!

Insurance is already a bitch for me being under 25.... so either way id be screwed!

Shane if you lose 12 points on your bike license you lose your car license also.

yeh id heard that about the insurance, but considering i got quoted $5500 insurance per year on my $7500 SRAD, and im only 19 now, i dont think ill be bothering with insurance for at least the next 6 or 7 years :P

Was the 5 year thing insurance company specific or is that used by all of them?

cheers

I've got a 12month gbb/3month suspension looming on the horizon (4 pointer taking my last 4 points plus a 3 month suspension for 30-44 over). fingers crossed i find a way out of it (i'll just admit i really am putting off paying the $560 or so of fines for that one ticket).

Worst case scenario for me is im walking 3 months plus 12month gbb. damned if im going to walk for a half year. but that one warning is good to know about *smile*.

b.t.w. who the hell knows what'll happen but i have worked out alternate travel plans to get to work if i do end up walking.

b.t.w. if they do give you your one warning, htf do you get home? they have no issues with you taking your vehicle home there and then, or is it tough bikkies your getting a trailer/mate out to get it for you?
