: Tire pressure on the street?
Cheese 09-02-2006, 02:47 PM Suzuki says 36psi front 42psi rear as a solo rider. On the track it’s more like 30psi front 30psi rear. If the track is wet then add a bit more to fully open the tire grooves.
On a sunny day on the street, what’s the best tire pressure to be running for maximum traction on the chicken strips? Is there a large trade off between tire pressures and tread life I need to worry about?
I’m running Pirelli Diablo tires if that changes the answers any.
Avplayer 09-02-2006, 04:30 PM it all boils down to personal preference
slack0Yd 09-02-2006, 06:02 PM I run Pilot Powers at 32 front 34 rear. Street riding rain or shine.
fridayman 09-04-2006, 04:26 AM Recommended pressures will give you significantly more mileage than say, 32/34. However 32/34 will heat up a bit quicker, and also give more grip when really pushing it (not really different at commuting speeds). I run 34f/36r on the street and have been very happy.
abcdefg 09-09-2006, 10:48 PM are these cold tire pressures? i ran 33f/36r cold... and that raised upto about 36f/40r when i checked about 45 mins later
slack0Yd 09-10-2006, 09:35 AM I do mine cold ...
asphaltpilot 09-20-2006, 03:22 PM I had 36/36 for my Diablo's. On the track, they went down to 30/31.
ninjanwong 09-20-2006, 04:54 PM I run 36F/34R on the street and 30/30 on the track for Pilot Powers. The rear heats up more so shouldn't the rear be less pressure than the front?
tito1a 09-20-2006, 05:05 PM I run 36F/34R on the street and 30/30 on the track for Pilot Powers. The rear heats up more so shouldn't the rear be less pressure than the front?
Yes the rear has more volume so it has space to expand more. So when you go for a ride, before you take off measure your pressure. Then once you warm them up and stop measure again. The front will gain aproximately 2-4 psi and the rear about 6-8. Thats what I found out on my tires after a good run.
Note i run 32 front and 30 rear.
Badiguana 10-03-2006, 03:16 AM I've always kept all my bikes as standard, 36/42 on the gsxr (on road), almost everyone I meet keeps their pressure lower, I've tried lowering it but I feel more comfortable wth the standard pressure, it's probably what I've got used to over the years....
I also measure mine when cold....
RussZTT 10-03-2006, 03:23 AM I run 38/36 for the street.
low.75r 10-03-2006, 02:56 PM at the tract I dropped down to 28 rear 30 front
street 36 all around
58285 10-11-2006, 10:33 AM I normally run 2psi less than the book figures. I tried going down quoite a bit and the handling was crap so took her back uo.
Most bikes I have had have been pretty good at a couple down.
Kato617 10-11-2006, 11:33 AM I run them around 32 front 34 rear. Trial and error my friend. Try different setups and see what you like.
A_train 01-30-2007, 03:51 PM I run 36/36 street and 32/32 track
sizzles03 02-06-2007, 01:44 AM I run 40/40 on mine, is that too high? I do a lot of freeway miles, 80 miles a day.
Avplayer 02-06-2007, 07:36 PM i usually run 30/30 track and 32/36 street
RadGSXR750 02-11-2007, 10:35 PM I dont remember seing different pressures for front and rear on solo, I have mine set the same pressure front and rear.
Tangz0r111 02-15-2007, 02:22 AM I used to run the pressures that were stated on the plate until i went for a long ride on a hot day.
Long story short, i could barely take a corner without the rear trying to step out on me.
I now run a more common 34/36 and havent had a problem yet.
arecegee 03-06-2007, 02:17 AM After coming down my local street with my missus on the back(after a two hour ride), I took a sharp corner and felt the back wheel go a bit squisshy. Missus freaked a bit but we came out safe.
Checked the tyres for the first time in a while and found the rear was on 18psi.
Eeeww ahhh........sorry honey.
