I am lucky enough to have a friend with too many bikes (nine to be exact), and in his collection are a 98'TLR and a 97'TLS, I've always told him that I was interested in the TLR and if he ever decided to sell it... Well now push has come to shove and he is reluctantly looking to sell one of his TL's. As I was browsing this forum to brush up on these bikes I've found more of an affection for the TLS among you guys so of course I began to think the TLS would be better. I mostly ride to work, half street, half freeway, and around town. Sometimes take it through the local canyons. I guess its the look that is the biggest factor, Racer X, or Japanese Ducati. Maybe someone can throw a few Pro's and Con's around to help me decide. Thanks for your opinions/input :nono
I haven't ridden an S, so I cant give much of a comparison.
I love my TLR, but I think the S might be better if you're doing a lot of around town riding.
Can't go wrong either way though

I own a TL and a 1993 GSX 750 and a 2005 SV650 (Wifes bike),
Go to tlzone.net for better comparisons, the S does make a great street bike.

i have had both. if i had to do it all again id get a 97tls with the original computer and pimp it the fukk out. the r was a handful around town because of the heat the that thing kicked up and at night the tls lights were waaaaaay better

I have owned a tlr and rode a tls. I would go with the r all the way. They are awesome bikes to ride. I miss mine.

I luv full faired bikes.... got to go with the R.
R is heavier... but doesn't have the frame cracking problems that the early
S's had.
S is easier to work on, not all that plastic to take off to get to stuff.

I say TLR for the fact that the 97 TLS's had issues with the frames. Also, tons more aftermarket parts for R . Althought the 97 is supposed to be the fastest S made. So it's a toss up.

The S has better power and a little less weight.

I 98'TLR and a 97'TLS
How did i not find this place. :D
As far as which TL,you might be better off trying both back to back, even a short ride would make deciding easy (imho)
Both models have their quirks but most can be overcome with a little work or mods.

Get the S & get your bud's maint. records -- make sure all the re-call
issues have been dealt with - if he hasn't already done it, you'll want
a Dynojet PC & a map that corresponds to your exhaust system.......
