Anyone know how to do this, without having to pay the tax??
I know my dad transferred a car into my sisters name years ago, and she didn't pay a penny! I think it had to do with the vehicle being transferred as a 'gift' between family members...

I wanna transfer my bike into my sisters name, and insure it under her for a year, or two; but i don't want to have to pay the tax on the bike to do it.

Anyone know what to do?

I'm pretty sure that you'll have to pay tax even if it's a gift(based on book value or something). The best way is to make a bill of sale for like $50 or something, that should work.

MCs are considered recreational vehicles, and therefore don't used the book value to calcuate tax. just give her a reciept for $1 gift. They still do this for bikes.

for cars that use book value, you have to get a sworn avidavit(MOT has the forms) signed by a city clerck(whichc they charge you money for http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif), then you take that to the ministry, and they tranfer it as a gift.

Makes sense!......I just have to talk my sister into it now! She wants to buy her 'own' bike this year, so she's worried that having 2 bikes in her name will be bad...I told her that she can do it, and she might even get a multi-bike discount!

I beleive you are permitted a "one time only" transfer of ownership between immediate family mambers, at zero cost. You may want to contact the MTO to ask about it.

I have just talked to the mto as im getting a car from my mother you both need to ge in to the licence buro and fill out a $10:00 form this will eliminate you from getting a sellers package and paying the tax but you will still need a saftey done on the bike.At least this is how it works for cars and I would think it should be the same for bikes. As far as the ins having more then 1 bike I have 3 and you will get a multi vechicle discount.
Good Luck http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/banana.gif

If you buy a used vehicle in Ontario (privately) do you have to pay tax on it? Thanks

Yes you do, you have to pay the tax on the book value when you register the vehicle
