I would say maybe 1/2" on the sides. No track days yet and all street riding so Im not worried about, I havent found a rode yet I could get that low on without being terrified of hazards in the way stopping me...no pics yet

Hi

This is what I have left on my rear , after just road riding taking in a few hi speed bends approx 90mph fairly well tipped in and counter steering
to keep a tight line , also a good few roundabouts , which are always good for plenty of lean.

well I started the thread and didnt even tell you what my strips are. I'd have to say without measuring 1/4 inch on left and justa tad more on the right. No trackday(but I'm going this saturday:D . There aren't any roads in Houston to get rid of them safely, so Saturday they will be a distant memory:punk

My bt014'S feel nice and grippy when hot but they seem to cool off a bit quick when the pace drops off , then I get a bum clencher next time I tip in deep, now trhe weathers cooling they're not so good , but then they wear well, can't have it all can ya :eek

i thought i was the only one with different size strips on either side. my right is about 3/4" and the left is about 1/2". but ive only been riding for about 3 months, so hopefully ill wear them down some more before winter.

Exactly :rolleyes

And FWIW, the really rough part is from when the tire started to give up (when the compound starts losing grip). The tire was more worn on the right from that track and started spinning up out of all the sharp rights :wait That made it look like that

chicken strips on stock tires are nothing to be ashamed of if you have never taken it to the track before. (unless they are more than an inch or so on either side):hammer
just realize that the capabilities of the stock tires, or any aftermarket ones for that matter, far exceed the capabilities of the average rider. what i am saying is that the stock tires on pretty much every streetbike made can be taken to the edge without too much danger of them breaking loose as long as throttle usage is correct and the road conditions can support them.

No need for new tires man, just lay that bitch over!! :punk

Hermans
08-25-2006, 07:49 AM
i think its just more of a confidence thing with me as far as tires go. when i had a six hundo i was the same way on the stockers i had about a 1/4 inch then i threw a pair of d207rr's on it (yea it was a long time ago:lol) and i had it maxed out as soon as they were broken in.

I have avon azaro II's on my gsxr and they're friggin horrible for feedback, and I now have 8-9mm on each side of the rear (I measured a few weeks back and remember) with just average road use, no real pushing of the bike due to unsmooth fuelling issues. When I got the bike it had about an inch each side.. :ohmy
Can't wait to get some dunlops on it. Loved 'em on every bike I've owned!

I cleared my rear ones on the street, i didint even had to work hard for it they automatically went away after couple spirited(!!!) canyon runs with my buddies :), i had to take it to the track the clear the strips on the front though. If you are cleaning your front strips on the streets is not very safe.

here's my strippage on my new Diablo Corsa III after I returned home from a N. GA Mtn Run Sunday... Wish I had my camera with me before the superslab ride home burnt off the scrubbed up rubber. Forgot to take pics of the front, less than 1/4" of unused rubber on each side. Still no knee dragging yet as I need some pucks, my darn leathers didn't come with any so I keep those buggers tucked in.

Why is that? I have cleared the fronts and have about an 1/8 on the rears and thats all street, never been to the track yet. Rear is also upted to the 190 instead of the stock 180. Asking because I'm curious, this is my first season and I only have about 4k miles under my belt. Tires are brand new m1's also f&r.

I think a part of the reason you have the opposite results is because you are using the wrong tire on the rear.

So you think if I had the 180 rear Id be worn to the edge on both then. I heard the 190 rear would affect my handeling but this is the only rear tire I've had. I have never had any trouble with it, I wonder how the proper 180 would feel?

So Its not that Im may be doing something wrong having the front tire worn all the way and the rear not?:confused

Yeah have no pics, but 1/4 of an inch, but they were huge so I am improving. Just rode an 02 CBR 954, and although fast...really rast I can tell how stable my K6 really is. So maybe one of these weekends I'll lose it. :cheers

If you're worried about it, couldn't you just run it up on a stand and hold a brick on the rear tire until it's all scuffed off and get rid of the flat spot while you're at it?

That's what I do :cheers

I put my bike away for the winter but the front is chicken strip free on my PP's and all street riding. Mind you it did slide a bit when it was that far over ... note: let them warm up before you try it. 30sec and 3 turns is NOT enough haha. I still have tread in the middle but the right side is worn smooth.

You're running a 190/50 on a 5.5" rim .... BAD boy! :nono

That's actually pretty dangerous if you start to push it hard. That tire "pinches" in at the edges and you'll actually have less contact patch at full lean. Go back to a 180 and it will feel safer and yes you will be at the edge of your tire!
