Hey guys, and the occasional gal

Having a slightly scary issue with my 03 750. Got back from sea (7 weeks) did some break in riding. Then a day at the races.Racing in case your wondering. Everything was great, then on the 2 hr commute home I noticed what sounds like my valves making alot of noise. The oil although slightly old, about 4000 km. is plentiful. But the sound started like a ticking only under load but by the time I got home it was nearly all the time. Now it almost sounds like a tractor which to be quite honest is scaring the crap out of me. Im wondering if this could be something simple like a valve adjustment or maybe new heads or I hope something even similiar. Anyone have any ideas, experiences?

My bike (2000 750)started making the same noise last night. Its hard to find the noise source because it makes this noise only when in gear, not in nuetral.

keep me posted when you find the problem. thanks:thumbup

Found my problem, ridiculously simple, 2 bolts had wormed themselves out of the exhaust manifold and onto the highway. Replaced to bolts to stop the exhaust leak and the problem went bye bye. Mine was worse under load than just sitting in neutral for awhile until it just sounded crappy all the time. I put new bolts in and shes now good to go, sounds as sexy as ever and the power is back too. Id just have a look at your headers first, if its not the same thing then move onto an oil change depending on how old your oil is, then Im hearing cam timing chain and valves, eliminate the stupid easy before you move on to the complicated and difficult. Good luck man.

Does it sound like it is internal or external. Hate to think the worst but if it progressively got worse and only did it with throttle at first it might be a rod bearing. Change your oil and watch for any metal shavings. Hopefully it something simple though

I hope my problem is as minor as yours. I wil check the manifold.

LOL...loose frame slider.........those damn bolts just worm their way out!!
City riding= constant low gear = vibration overload.
