I have a flat spot from hell on my rear tire "Pilot Powers." The dilemna is i'm leaving next month for 7mths. the tread in the middle is almost non exsistent. Should I just stick it out and wait til I get back seeing as I don't have a stand and it will get a flat spot anyway. I can still ride the hell out of some twisties so I don't know how much it has affected the bike. The edges are in great condition I guess i should hit up the twisties more often but its my daily commuter even though i have a car. Is it possible to ride carefully on a tire with a flat spot for another 1k miles or should I just buck up and buy another tire. Help is greatly appreciated :scratch

I wouldn't ride it like that for another 1k miles - squared tyres have this nasty habit of going into a weave unexpectedly.

It's unsafe. I would get new tires.
Right now you're tires are squared. So when you go canyon carving on the turns you're going to fight the bike and in the middle of the turn your bike would just wanna fall down in the turn. ( Not in a good way)
If you don't wanna spend $$ to get a new tire. Get some track take offs. I've seen some good ones go for $ 150 a set. Like Dunlop 208GP's. Great tires.

I just went and got some new tires. It sucked I never realized how much it sucked riding like that until I got new tires and it feels totally different now. I wanted to try Qualifiers or Metzlers M-3 or Powers again but the shop didnt have any of the 3. I'm new to Cali so I don't know where all of the good shops are so I ended up getting a set Metzler M-1s because I didn't want to risk riding around anymore on the squared rear tire with the thread started to show. I'll be leaving in a month anyway so not really a big deal. Has anyone ever used the M-1s and how did you like them.

Dunlop 208GP's are great tires and I've purchased race takeoffs and have great luck with them. :punk

Glad to see you got new tires. Technically what you had were "squared off" tires not a "flat spot" and I do see that you used the correct term in your last post.
A flat spot is created by either sitting a long time in one spot causing a deformation of the tire carcass which I've found can be ridden out - at least on a motorhome that sits 5 months in one spot. Or a flat spot is more often associated in racing with the results of locking up the brakes for a long skid and having a true flat spot from burning off the rubber in one spot of the tire. Then when your drive/ride it goes bumpity-bumpity-bumpity-bumpity. This cannot be ridden off so easily.
Cheers all!
