: Help me get down the 1/4 mile....

Hey guys, got an 04 600, -1 in front and a bolt-on.

The best run I had was a 11.356 @ I think 122.

I had a good MPH but a shitty 1/4 time.

My launch is the problem, on that run I pulled a 2.0 60' and that has been
my best 60' so far, the worst being 2.2.

last time I got fed up running 11.3-11.6 and just did a wheelie down the track, I ended up putting the front wheel up at the 60' mark and i hit the 1/8 mile at 55MPH and finished the 1/4 at 57MPH @ 19 seconds.
heh...

Anyway, I know I'm riding the clutch too long, so one run I just about dumped the clutch (without warming up my tire) and spun halfway through first. Sucked.

I can launch fine on the street, but I get up to the tree and just don't think and launch like a pansy. I'm riding the clutch and launching about 7-8k.

I know I should be dipping into the 10's especially with a 15t front sprocket.

Any launch tips would be greatly appreciated, thanks fellas.

My guess is you probably need to be slipping the clutch more on the launch.

Well I think I was slipping it too much, that's why I had the run where I pretty much dumped it and spun through 1st.
When i slip the clutch I stay about 1/3 to half throttle, should you stay almost WOT during slip?

It'll rev sky-high and you'll ride the clutch more if you do that. Let go of the clutch faster and roll the throttle open sooner to keep the motor from bogging.

FastCat is right, you're need to be more aggressive with the clutch.

And that -1 in the front isn't going to help you, since you're having to shift about 75ft before the finish line. I know cuz I just did that on mine and am now adding a 47T rear to the mix.

You mentioned you should be in the 10's, well not without strapping the front you won't be. And your MPH is still slow, 122MPH, you should be up around 126-128+

I disagree about not going in the 10s without a strapped front end, on my 04 600 (when it was a 600) completely stock with just a pipe, I ran 10.856 @ 131.31mph.

Definatly need to work the clutch and throttle more, when I did that 10.85 pass, I launched at 9000-10000 rpm, and just went, on a stock dunlop D218. You just need to get it perfect, then figure out what you did, and try to do it again.

The Bottom line is you need to get the clutch out sooner while slipping it alittle and locking the throttle once the bike gets moving and hitting your shift points right before red line, never let your bike hit the rev.limiter it KILLS YOUR TIME, trust me on that, it's no reason that bike won't run low 10 in the 1/4 then even with a half decent rider
