I was out on a nice ride this afternoon after work, rode about 40 miles away from home when she died. All power is gone. Nothing turns on, already had my stator replaced over the summer, but it did smell like something electrical gave out. Anybody have any input/info? Any and all would be very appreciated.
Why did you have the stator replaced? I ask because stator problems are rare and more so as a stand alone failure. 19 out of 20 times it is the rectifier plus stator and/or battery. Just unusual, especially on a bike renowned for rectifier issues.
Initially when I got the bike, the battery was not being charged. Took it to my mech and he diagnosed that it was the stator. He checked the rectifire after he put the stator and said it was good.
Sounds like it is possibly the main fuse under seat (well at least on k5 1000 it is) considering nothing works it's either this or battery is disconnected.
Well according to my mech it's my rectifire. Also warned me that it might have hurt my stator. Is this true? Could my stator burn out with the rectifire?
These bikes have poor charging systems. Get a new battery, a Rick's Motorsport stator and reg/rec, and a relocation bracket from C.Chaos on here, and be done with it.
