No light either?

Check the plug into the bottom of the instrument cluster and if not the problem, the big plug on the left side of the cluster with the clear/yellow rubber boot.

Sounds like you might have knocked one of them loose.

Re: Another Speedo/Tach issue... Help

Cluster lights up, just none of the digital numbers show up, and the tach doesn't move... I've checked the plug at the bottom of the cluster, and everything is fine in that location... so I'm guessing I may have knocked a wire loose in the connector with the rubber boot. Anyone else seen or herd of this problem?

One other thing, the cluster seems to do some weird things when the voltage gets low. You might want to put a voltmeter across the battery and check for proper charging voltage.

14.0-15.5 volts at 5000 rpm.

Got the same problem with 750 K6. It is not doing it all the time, speedo and tach disappear for a while and then comes back. The plug into the bottom is fine - no corrosion, all fuses are fine. Speedo and tach doesnt work, the red backlight is there, but no numbers.
Still lookin for solution, greetings from Bulgaria!

Re: Another Speedo/Tach issue... Help

hi guys i also put up a post i found my problem dry plug left fairing but my mate,s 1000 was from harness side.
what we did was lift tank remove airbox ,the wiring from there to the main plug was where the problem seemed to be,took awhile to figure it out the main brown wire seemed to be the problem, when we pushed in the plug in at the end that joins up with cluster harness it would push out the wiring pins in the plug its self. nest to check that way and the harness under tank as well for damaged wiring
Hope this helps

Unfortunately, I don't think it can be a speed sensor. If it was bad, you would get an erroneous or "0" for a speed reading but everything else would work.

I think Ty101 has the idea. You have a bad connection somewhere.

Re: Another Speedo/Tach issue... Help

Well I finally got enough time to pull my farings off last weekend, and the problem was in the wire harness inside the rubber boot on the left side. The red/blue wire had came loose from the connector. It was an easy fix, so if anyone is still having this problem, I would start there. I also noticed corrosion on the connector so I went ahead and cleaned that up while I was in there. Hope this helps......

I will check the plug out-I recently went thru my harness and put dailactic grease in my connectors. Wil llook for a loose wire or poor contact....

Since this has become a common problem, I did a little more research on the issue. In most cases it is the red/blue wire that will lose contact or come undone from the wiring pin.

Re: Another Speedo/Tach issue... Help

Looks like my issue is a loose wire/connection in the main instrument harness plug. Thanks to those who suggested it.
