Re: Oil leak at water pump fix

Hey guys Im getting ready to change to o-ring and Im a bit confused about the Permatex UltraCopper RTV. Do I put 1/16 bead in front and behind the o-ring or just behind it? how far apart from the o-ring? Looks like the previous owner had sealed it and got a little too crazy with the RTV because it had a lot when I removed the pump.

I hope it works, if not, just replace the pump assy. Mine worked for awhile then start leaking from the internal seal at only 1400 miles.
Gonna catch h3ll for bringing up a zombie thread.

So the internal seal you speak of is the Oil Seal inside the Pump? See link from Babbits: http://www.suzukipartshouse.com/oemp...adb/water-pump

Is so it seems the most viable and long term solution is the entire pump replacement I guess right?

Just narrowed mine down to this area this morning. Got 48,000 on my baby. Orig 2,292!

Re: Oil leak at water pump fix

I know this is old, but I need help, looks like I have the same problem oil leaking from water pump or somewhere in that area, but also I found some coolant leaking from the hose that connects to the radiator, I tided the clamp on that hose and seems to be fine now, but I' am thinking maybe there is a problem with water pump or some problem in the cooling system, maybe some preassure, the bike never overheted, any help?

I think you are saying that you have oil in your water?

The first thing to check is the oil cooler. They crack internally and oil and water can go either way.

Re: Oil leak at water pump fix

I ordered the #9 installed it, still leaked. Did the new #9 with the sealer, still leaked. New water pump, no leak. It's easy enough to do, but the pump is $184.00.

Mine wasn't a drip here and there, it was 2 quarts on the drive in front of work one day.

Re: Oil leak at water pump fix

I just got done fixing this problem...

amidst all 3 pages of ideas on how to do this, there was one dude on page one who said "why not put a fatter O-ring in there".

so after the sealant attempt failed, I did just that...so far no leak...I'll report back in a week or so if it's still not leaking...and sooner if it fails.

If it holds up, then I'll do a step by step of how I did it...

Mine's a K2 1000.

Hi guys. So I need a little help with this issue. So it's happened to me now and I replaced the O ring and followed the steps however it is still leaking oil.

I felt underneath the water pump a day I found that between the pump and engine there is a small gap. Should the pump go all the way up against the body? Or is the gap normal? If the gap is normal the O ring isn't working. If it isn't normal, then the O ring is preventing the pump from going all the way in.

So anyone know the answer? Gap or no gap?

Im going to attach a diagram of the water pump assemble just to make sure that what Im going to buy is what I need to solve this problem!

I need o-ring 8 & 9?
I can see some oil behind the water pump... I thought it could be oil coming from the chain after lubing it... Now i see this thread, i think it is coming from the water pump itself... But looking at this drawing, part No5 seems the responsible for sealing oil, isn't it? Or it is part No9 I should be replacing??

Re: Oil leak at water pump fix

Removed water pump and it was that bad 👆

I found a rounded 3mm thick o'ring and just installed (ID 32mm), let's see now what happens... OEM was oval, 2mm width and 1,5mm height... It was little harder to slide the water pump back in, it seems to be tight fit now... So it is not supposed to leak...
