Some people have put both lock nuts on the same side of the adjuster down at the throttle body, but I wanted to be a little more professional and proper about it. Having a throttle that snaps back properly seems to me to be pretty important.
I was getting very frustrated with mine as I almost gave up trying to get any slack from the adjusters. FINALLY, at the very end of the adjustment with both cables backed ALL THE WAY OUT, there was a little bit of slack. I was almost on the verge of putting stock back on.

Another problem I had is I couldn't put my grip all the way at the end of the tube. Since there isn't a second cam for the grip to rest on outside of the housing, the grip would stick.

FWIW I think its worth rementioning that, if you want your new grips to stick well, use CA glue. Most bar grip adhesives dont work well and take hours to dry, and/or can become undone again. I tried first using grip adhesive a few times with no luck, as did others. Just wouldnt bond well, or if it did bond it wasnt long. That was my experience.

So if anyone encounters this problem, then head down to your local hobby shop and get CA glue. Its usually used to bond R/C tires to rims. It bonds strong and dries fast. So you can be out riding and not waiting 6 hours for something to set up.

I could be wrong. Don't quote me on that.

You must be joking? Or your R1 has some weird throttle system compared to a GSXR.

update. r6 tube is in and works great. the housing did not need modified on my k4 gixxer, but the threaded extension did. I cut with a dremel and the slotted it so it came off nicely.

did you have to mod the housing?

I ordered one off ebay from an 07, I was just riding on the freeway the other day and entering I was like jeez this thing could use a shorter throw, no problems taking off from a stop?

Did the R6 tube mod to my K7 GSX-R 1000 with -1/+2 sprockets. What a difference! Just a bit Dremelling needed. Bang for buck mod, highly advised! Thanks!

Re: Throttle mod hard facts R1 vs R6! (pics)

Upgraded my tube the other day from the R1 Tube to the R6 on my k9 750. The difference is massive. Not just in how easy to get to WOT, but in the rate of throttle pick up. At first I though my clutch was slipping the revs were building so fast
