yeah, just the rears, I figured the price ratios are pretty much the same.

Im interested in trying the Pirellis coming from only riding Michelin all my life. Just read that their carcasses are about the same, with Pirelli being on the softer side. I would keep on riding Mich, but its not like I have been riding THAT long. So switching over to a new tire shouldnt bug me out too bad. I hope.

Why do tires have to be so damn expensive
Because we need them. And they know that most (motorcycle) people usually wont skimp on the only thing connecting them to the ground.

Damn, I paid like 206 for a rear from TPM. Was worth it then though

Well it's the 190/55 which is certainly a perfectly good tire, but they (as in AMA pros) stopped using at the start of 2012 when the 190/60 became the new spec tire size, so I'm guessing they are getting rid of the old stock at more affordable pricing. TPM doesn't even carry the 190/60 rear. I have 2 of Chris' takeoffs waiting to mount for next season to see how they feel.

They don't feel any different, at least the little bit I used them or as Bob is gonna say, at my pace.

I used them my last 2 trackdays, one I couldn't get my head out of my ass, the second day I crashed.

I'm good with that. I hope they have enough for the whole season next year!

I would use a rear pretty much to the cords, although I can definitely feel the rear sliding around after like 25 laps or so

I have 2 rears with a single trackday on them, right side is shagged. I will flip them the beginning of next year and see how that works out.

BTW, Joe, there is no way he isn't spinning/sliding here. Look at how out of alignment his tires are!

Re: Northeast Trackwhores: 7 month thread v3

they must have discontinued the power One commercial when the Pure came out.

It used to look just like the powe one race tire, but didnt have letter compounds or any carcass shape choices on the front.

Checking sportbiketireservices.com they dont have it, and they pretty much have anything michelin related.

Re: Northeast Trackwhores: 7 month thread v3

Actualy no, that is it... they just dont call it the competiiton or commercial since the Cup is now the race tire.

http://www.sportbiketireservice.com/Power-One/

That is a trackday/race tire that doesnt require warmers (although they can be used on it for sure) like the Pirelli SP range of tires.

Hmmm. After the Mich P1 B I have on my bike are toast Ill have to go with a set of these Mich P1 2ct's or Pirelli SP's. Im not fast enough for the Pirelli Superbike Pro's yet i dont think. Im kinda bummed Mich discontinued the older P1 lines. They had a bunch of combinations I would have loved experimenting with.

The old power ones were full race tires
Don't be fooled by the name of the pirellis. They are just trackday slicks. They don't take any special talent to work right.

Whats yalls stance on take-offs? I see its MUCH cheaper, but youre also buying less rubber to use and they might be damaged.

Racing or trackday?

Racing... not worth it. The confidence of new tires alone is worth their price. When you second guess yourself or your tires entering a corner you crash.

Trackday? Sure. Not pushing the edge anyway. But keep in mind someone is tossing them for a reason.

Yeah, ask Bob. After riding on take offs for a full season he went and bought a new tire for a couple races. He won both of them.

I rode on take off rear tires for track days for a whole season. I am still undecided whether or not I will be running them again this year since after some suspension changes I have been getting a lot more life out of my rear tires. I guess I will have to wait and see how money is this year.

You have to weigh out your options. If you find the right person to buy your take-offs from you will make out good.

Purely for trackdays. I'd want to race on fresh tires. Im not at the edge as it is now anyways. I doubt I can push a Mich P1 to its limits yet, even a takeoff, but I have no experience with them. Where does one purchase take offs? Or is it a "need to know someone" type thing? Looked through a few forums classifieds and found some, but not in abundance.

Re: Northeast Trackwhores: 7 month thread v3

Actually, the races I won, I bought a new rear and a take off front that someone had laying in a pile that was muddy.

I have raced on takeoffs, and done really well.

Actually, this front ntec I bought from the muddy pile... I might do my first race weekend on it next year. That's how much confidence I had with it. I might buy a new front ntec next year per 3-4 rear gpas
