I'm reading here for a while but never posted something. In my rare spare time I make composite products and a few weeks ago I finished my carbon tank. I thought I share some pictures. The tank weights 1300 gram and the original steel one weights 4300 gram. It's made out of carbon and kevlar in combination with epoxy.
The next months I will focus on making some other carbon parts for my gixxer.
Does anybody know if there is someone else with a carbon fuel tank on a gsxr 600/750 k6/k7 ?
Thanx. It took quite a few days. After the first tank I thought that can be lighter for my own ( not so strong as the other one ). The first tank is still laying here next to me.
^^^Time lapse. Project pictures. Also was wondering if the inside of the tank has a liner? Not required? Looks great by the way,but you knew that. Great hobby!
this is amazing!!! the only thing that scares me is if you have an accident and it splinters, i've had a bonnet do that to me once. was picking carbon out of my skin for days.
Maybe this is a dumb question, but does the tank naturally split into two pieces to make ur two halves of the mold? I'm curious as to how you connected the two halves of the mold as well! Sweet stuff! :cheers
Yes I have made several things for my bike and I still have to make a lott. At the moment I just finished a tank for a gsxr 1000 k7 for a forum member here.
It weights 2200 gram incl. fuel cap. Original it weights 6200 gram excl. fuel cap.
