Re: Who says 20,000 miles is a lot?

The people who think 20,000 miles are a lot are the ones who sell their bikes and realize how much that kind of mileage affects their bike's value. I've seen 20,000 mile bikes sell for half of what a 5,000 mile bike would go for. Regardless of how well the bike was taken care of, the public perception is that a supersport is used up when it hits 20 or 30,000 miles.

Here's where a bunch of angry folks line up to tell me they have 40,000 miles on their bike with no problems.

I do realize that a well taken care of bike will last 100,000 miles.

I had an 88' Chevy Silverado with over 200K over the odometer and never had the heads off. Just the usual maintenance and one water pump... I imagine he was being a smart ass.. Also seen many diesels with over 500K in Trucks when I worked for Cumins West

Of course this was pre-1999. When GM actually made good trucks. I have an '05 Silverado w/ 65k miles. GM garbage. I always said I would never buy a Jap truck, but the Tundra is looking really good right now.

I need to change my username...

Just get an older GM truck I have a 99 yukon, love it, even though the AC doesn't work. Wife is fond of it too, drives it more than her 06 Rav4.

Forgot to add that the Yukon has 195,xxx miles on it.

Re: Who says 20,000 miles is a lot?

I have 25,xxx on my bike now and its an 08, is that high? I've driven a 94' Ford Ranger to 175,000 until the odo, stopped ticking, still driven everyday today. My 02 Explorer now has 101,xxx miles on it. I hope he was kidding about never seeing an american vehicle with over 25,xxx miles. I work with semi drivers and they have over 1,000,000 miles on some of their trucks.

Re: Who says 20,000 miles is a lot?

I know there are many bikes out there that have many miles on them, for example a Ducati Monster with about 200,000 but felt this to be more relevant as it is in fact a GSX-R with over 250,000 miles on it. Hopefully it will put an end to all this "The bike has 20,000 miles so it must be about done for" comments/questions. I have not owned a bike with less then 30,000 miles when I sold it and have not had mechanical/clutch issues except my 1990 ZX-7 that blew the water pump seal around 55,000 miles or so. These bikes will last if taken care of.

Re: Who says 20,000 miles is a lot?

Niceeee - is that an 01? Quite a feat to put that many miles on a bike in a year, I'm only doing about 10k and I ride it like a son of a bitch or at least I feel like it

For a well looked after bike that's been serviced properly, stored and cleaned properly; that's only just run in!
