'Twas the weekend before a track day...

Fitted and mounted my armour bodies today. It surprisingly went smoothly, even with having to make a small modification for one of the GB racing covers. Had already cleaned/installed my brake calipers with fresh pads after throwing back my wheels with fresh rubber for this year. The only thing I had left to do was exchanging all of my fluids and I'd be set! Just needed to take it for a spin to warm everything up - but I needed to adjust my chain tension first.

Then it happened... I stripped the damn rear axle

I've never had this happen before. It was already installed and properly torqued with no abnormal resistance and when I loosened it 2-3 turns and it locked up. That was painful, frustrating 15-20 minutes of my life I don't want to go through again. Hopefully the new parts will arrive before next weekend seeing as though I'll miss tomorrow's session

You got it.

I have to order a few more fasteners also. I forgot to take the undertail piece into consideration when I bought them.

Don't worry, I planned on contacting you sooner than later for some art work Any ideas?

I've still been thinking about this since I have the axle sitting on my dresser as a painful reminder This was the second time I had adjusted the chain because it tightened up on me when I initially tightened it The only thing that I could imagine is that I somehow managed to have the axle out of alignment when I torqued it down initially. That would have to a severe error though. I double and often triple check my work. Both spacers were in place and the axle was certainly aligned properly. *Edit* Looking at the threads, it seems the nut went on wrong. Not sure how I didn't notice it since I definitely know what it feels like!

Oh well, 15 bucks for a used one. I've made more expensive mistakes before

Too bad we didn't discuss this before. I'd have told you to have 'em drop shipped to me here in Montreal, I'd do my thing, re-pack 'em and send them to you down there.

That's some solid work skid

I bought them last year before work took hold of the reigns and finally got around to mounting them. Now that they are fitted I may send them your way if I have a break in the season. That's if you'd want to that is

Re: 'Twas the weekend before a track day...

Got the replacement axle (actually a used set in decent condition for $15) and promptly installed it this evening. The only thing I could imagine that happened was I managed to misaligned the rear axle the first go and crossthreaded it when I torqued it down. I ensured that I made contact with both adjusters when tightening it down and all is well. Truth be told, I was halfway convinced I was going to strip this one too, just out of paranoia

All is well. I'll take it out tomorrow and grease it. My RapidBike module should be here this week so I'll connect that, do the rest of my maintenance, and I'll be ready for the rest of this year.

Plan on changing all the fluids this weekend. Been a busy couple of weeks with my new technical school winding up. Should wrap it all up!

RapidBike was super easy to install. Took a grand total of 20 minutes. Can't wait to see how it performs on the track.

The rear axle on those bikes is garbage. I stripped one my first time torquing it down. Fortunately someone had a spare. I always carry a spare with me now.
