So am I the only one that still reads the mags???

I remember being a child and begging my mom to buy me the moto mags when we went to the grocery store. Especially the Euro mags, performance bikes, fast bikes, etc.. We generally had to be at the mall to get the oversees stuff though but still...she always bought them when I asked. Helps to have a mom that understands you.

I've been actually subscribed to Motorcyclist and Cycle World since I was about 9 thanks to her. We'd get Dirt Rider too since well...I was once a dirt rider back then . In fact...nowadays I don't have to pay for any of these. Nothing to do with my mom anymore. Just really have been at this a while.

Do any of you still read?

I'd rather ride and control an Analog bike than ride and be controlled by a Digital one.

Re: So am I the only one that still reads the mags???

I have a subscription to a magazine. Sport rider maybe, yes confirmed. I'm always looking for them when I go to places with a magazine stand but it seems like it all Harley or heavily modified custom cruiser magazines. Never see many sport bike magazines these days. They are kinda like playboy for me, I like to look at all the pictures, then pick out a couple of the articles and read those too. I also have alot of magazine pages hung up in my garage and basement. One I particularly like is a guy on a repsol CBR in the apex of the turn, it says in big bold letters under it

DON'T JUST SEIZE THE DAY, LEAN INTO IT.

anyway, my kid brought back an order form for candy and baked goods from girl scouts, I like to support her activities, but not a big sweets fan. Being the techy IT guy that I am I immediately found the URL and looked thru the website instead of the paper book. I stumbled upon magazine subscriptions and was happy to find a 2 yr sport rider subscription for $25.00.

I get a small smile on my face every time I pull one out of my mailbox.

The last edition was pretty interesting, focusing on many of the new bikes that are utilizing carbon fiber technology.

The supergirerra (no ideas if that's spelled right I can't even pronounce it) made by Ducati is an all carbon fiber Panigale. Frame, sub frame, rims, and fairings. Interesting stuff. They shaved almost 40 lbs off the bike and added some hp to the motor to make a real bad bitch. I enjoyed thumbing through it like it was 1999 again! Lol

I was subscribed to many automotive and bike magazines when I was a kid . Nowadays I just snag the ones with Corvette, Camaro and GSXR specials.

Re: So am I the only one that still reads the mags???

I subscribed to Motorcyclist for a few years, I like that one. I currently get Road & Track - my wife finds free subscriptions on some site she goes on. I still enjoy magazines even though you can read the same shit online. Good way to kill time when I'm on the train.

I used to, but considering I can get more up-to-date information online and most of the reviews seem to be falling in quality, I barely bother to read them.

Re: So am I the only one that still reads the mags???

I enjoy reading about restorations in "Classic Motorcycle Mechanics" and "Practical Sportbikes", but they're imported from the UK and availability here, is always hit or miss. They seem to feature the old junk that I like.

I think "Motorcycle Classics" does a good job as well.

I still grab the occasional "Hot Rod", if there is Bonneville/racer coverage.

As much as I can aimlessly drift through the internet for hours, in search of whatever...I still like to have a tangible magazine or book in my hands, to read.

Re: So am I the only one that still reads the mags???

I haven't bought a bike magazine in years. I have hundreds of magazines dating back to the 70's when I begged mommy to get me a subscription to Cycle! Magazine;every now&then I like to flip through 'em and look how far we've come in the last 10/20/30yrs

I do have my lifetime subscription to Cockhandler magazine. I can honestly say this magazine changed my life. It taught me the importance of, All The Gear, All The Time. It's the best, been getting it since I was 12. It's where I learned all my ball handling skills, & I'm not talking about basketball, wink wink!

Re: So am I the only one that still reads the mags???

I still read Sport Rider, Fast Bikes, and Cycle World. Yes, sometimes it's the electronic versions, but I frequently get the hard copies when i'm on trips. One mag I've recently gotten into and try not to miss is Practical Sportsbikes. Fantastic mag about wrenching on and restoring old sportsbikes. I learn a lot and it's great to see some of those old beaters brought back to life.

That one looks like a winner OG!

I still get several bike & car mags. I can't get into reading them online. What else are you supposed to do while you are on the crapper?

Re: So am I the only one that still reads the mags???

I bought a Motorcycle Mag (can't remember the name) when I was interested in how Rider Jackets came to be. That's how I found out about "The Wild One" with Marlon Brando. From there, I started to look at Triumph style bikes because I had parted ways with my Y2K/750 Gixxer and bought an 82GS750T.

Recently, I had jury duty (no electronics allowed in the bldg) and instead of buying a new mag, I went through some old "Maxim" mags to read in the Jury Waiting Room. I forgot how great they are for jokes, beer, sports and other manly responsibilities.

As OF said, ONE does need something to read while on the crapper. When I was a kid, it was Reader's Digest in the bathroom.

Re: So am I the only one that still reads the mags???

I've been buying motorcycle mags since I was 10. I have a ton of them stored .

While nothing beats paper, the cost is a decisive factor. One year subscription for $9 is a good deal, especially if you take into account the cost for overseas subscribers. Sport Rider, Cycle World, Motor Cyclist ,RRW, Performance Bikes (this one is the most expensive of them 9.99 for 3 months but Rutter is the reason I buy it) .

Some ex or current racers are a trustworthy factor for shootout results.
The young Michael Gilbert for Sport rider, Bradley Adams for Cycle World, John Ulrich and Kyle Wyman for RRW and of course Rutter for PB as I already mentioned. Ari Henning and Zack Courts do a good job at Motor Cyclist too.

And last but not least, the free Cycle News.

The cost for paper editions would be enormous so I go digital, not that I prefer it over paper.

Be a voice not an echo
