I have a 2007 gsxr 600. Bought it about a month ago but haven't had a problem yet. Put nearly 1000 miles and 7-9 tanks of gas on it. We just had a bad rainstorm 3 days long where it say outside the whole. It ran fine before it. Today I start it up and let it warm up and it's fine. I get a mile down the road and it gets real boggy and shuts off within a minute. Won't turn over or anything. I'm thinking somehow water got in it? Any suggestions on what to do?
Sounds like you answered your own question... Drain the fuel and replace with new.
Oh fuck, I just read the last part again. I hope it's not hydrolocked. What do you mean it won't turn over? Please be more specific. Do you hear the starter/relay?
And yes I can hear the starter/relay. It just cranks and no turn. Well it did. I stopped trying because I didn't want to hurt anything else. How exactly do I drain the fuel?
How do you get water in the fuel from rain?? more likely water and electrics, start at plugs and leads and work from there, WD40 is your friend in this fight.
Well I've been stuck on the road I don't have a multimeter with me but I know my battery isn't the strongest. I drained about a gallon of fuel and tried to start it. Got it to start but it was real rough so I shut it off. I'm on my way home now. Buddy came and picked me and the bike up. Tomorrow I'm gonna drain the rest and throw new fuel along with a fuel system cleaner. I heard sea foam is real good.
Sea foam is good stuff. If it is in fact due to water in the tank you'll be ok after running another tank through it. Ethanol in today's fuel allows water to mix with gas, unlike pure gas where it is entire separated. There was probably enough water in your tank to cause that. That's an easy fix.
I'll check it all tomorrow, I'm kinda busy the rest of the night. I understand the charging system is important and all, but I'm a little confused on how that would affect everything that just occurred. I'm an aircraft mechanic, sorta new to the bike scene lol
I'm not doubting it, I'm just curious. But I'll definitely check everything. Is there a good thread on here of what to check and how exactly to do it? I'm just being lazy I can search for it tomorrow lol
Well I got the old fuel out, new fuel in. Started right up. Idled like a champ. Let it warm up, hop on it, not even a quarter mile down the road same issue. Bogged real hard and shut off. This time it would start back up but idle was real real rough. Pushed it back to my parking lot to park it and the kickstand wasn't down far enough and dropped it lol the perfect touch. I'm gonna be busy the rest of the day and week so it will have to be a weekend project. I don't know where to start with it though. I'd like to have an idea of what's wrong so I can order the parts to have this weekend. I wish I had more time to troubleshoot and give more info on to what it could be
Sorry about that. It kinda slipped my mind when I started this thread. But yeah it had that code when I bought it and it's been running fine. Well until now of course. Could the stps cause this? I just figured it was water because the rain storm was the only thing that happened between running good and not running good
Do you have any idea what the condition of your secondary throttle plates are? Points of interest are: whether the plates are there or have been removed, whether the STPS is there and plugged in and whether the STVA is there and plugged in. Consult the service manual to find out where the components in question are/should be installed. I assumed that the C29 was due to a STV delete from the previous owner, but if not, then a fault in the secondaries could explain your symptoms very well.
EDIT: just re-read and noticed it not only bogs, but shuts off and won't turn over. These symptoms wouldn't be explained by a STPS fault, as Anthony says. Still worth a check though, if not for anything more than to determine the state of your bike.
So what happens when it bogs down, shuts off and won't re-start? Do the gauges, lights, etc. still work? Do you see 'CHEC' at the dash or the coolant temperature as normal? If the starter does work, do you hear any signs of firing, like sputter, backfires and the like?
When it shuts off the lights and gauges were still on. I'm not exactly sure but I wanna say the CHEC light was showing. When I would try and start it, at first it would act like it wanted to start but would sputter out and then it'll just crank and crank.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
