Does anyone know if it's still coming out in June.

Re: Any word on the 2017 gsxr 1000

I never heard of any specific month other than late 2016, and even that isn't looking very promising.

During last week's motoamerica superbike race, the t.v. announcer was talking about how the new gsxr 1000 has been delayed. I asked one of the suzuki race team members about this on instagram, and he said they probably won't see the new bike until next year.

That would make sense with how silent suzuki has been about it too.

First quarter of 2017...

Was supposed to be late 2016, but it doesn't seem like that is realistic.

Rumor is Suzuki saw what Kawasaki put out and decided to go all the way back to the drawing board.

I wouldn't be surprised... That new ZX-10R is a monster.

Re: Any word on the 2017 gsxr 1000

Will any of this tech eventually trickle down to the 600s? I plan on racing at the club level coming up and it wouldn't hurt to have the new 600 be heads and shoulders above the competition... Suzuki hasn't changed the 600s much, making it harder for me to justify not buying used.

At the amateur club level, don't bother with a new bike unless you have disposable funds.

Buy a used race bike that is already prepped and go race. It won't be the bike slowing you down, that is for sure.

In the class I want to race in, (beginner ss) vintage is classified as anything before an 08 model. The 08's sell for almost the price of new so it's quite a bother getting ready to race in the "modern" supersport class.

Edit: back to the 2017 1k, anyone else think it looks like a K3/K4 ?

Right, because $3,500 is close to new...

Don't be that guy who needs to justify buying a new race bike.

I was actually looking at going even cheaper and running vintage.

My current bike is an 03, but I found a prepped 00 R6 for 1500 asking. At that price, I could buy another one if I crash it.

Anthony, I am probably much poorer than most people on the forum, being in college still. When I even look at new bikes it ends up becoming daydreams.

That seems unlikely to me. Kawasaki announced the new zx10 over a month before suzuki revealed the gsxr, so I'm sure they already had a pretty good idea of what was coming.
On top of that just going by the specs, I doubt suzuki would have much to worry about.

The rumor I have heard for the delay is getting it to pass the new euro4 emission standards and still meet power/design goals. But really who knows??

They should be worrying,if the new L7 doesnt make at least 190rwhp once the ECU has been flashed and with a pipe/tune then they dropped the ball yet once again.

The S1K,R1M&Gen5 10R all make just under 200rwhp with bolt on's and ECU flash. There is absolutely no excuse for Suzuki not to be at those same numbers with the L7. I have my doubts however

The new ZX-10R, stock, with an unlocked ecu, makes 192rwhp. No pipe, no filter, nothing. Just stock, with the ecu restrictions removed.

It has a great chassis, great brakes, and great suspension as well.

Suzuki needs to be worried.

I saw Ryan Schnitz flashed a Gen5 and with a slip on,made 194rwhp. Insane. No way in hell Suzuki is coming close to that. Kawasaki has made it very clear that they want to be the Kings of open class-bike horsepower. ZX10R,ZX14R,H2/R..they just kill everything. Suzuki used to go toe-to-toe with Kawi in the HP wars....they gave up years ago

Re: Any word on the 2017 gsxr 1000

Peak power doesn't make or break the bike. The R1 doesn't make the same peak power as the others, AND has no mid range, and yet it's still one of the best because of the electronics. And nearly all those new 1000s with the exception of the s1000rr and maybe rsv4, suffer in mid range power. Suzuki "should" have that taken care of with the VVT.

As far as the zx10, the gsxr will have the same suspension, and although the gsxr might not have the nice m50 calipers, I'm betting it will be 500-1000 cheaper than the kawi.

After that, it all comes down to cost. Suzuki is known for their affordability, and I really think the price/performance ratio of the new bike will make it a big winner. It may not do EVERYTHING the best, but for the price it should be hard to beat.

Suzuki needs to have class leading bike. No excuses. You can't be mid pack.
