Fast sweep corner dampening

Hi, ive got a stock damper for my 08 1k ... is it possible that it make the handlebar difficult to turn during a fast sweep/speed corner or when doing some correction mid corner(high speed and high rpm). If yes, im thinking getting ohlins or scott ... what do you reckon? thanks in advance.

IIRC it's the electronic one that dampens more then faster you go but that shouldn't make it outright difficult to turn the bars. The gyro effect on the front wheel does make a difference as does (low) tire pressure.

You really shouldn't need an aftermarket damper on the street but it does come in handy on track. I'd go for Íhlins myself.

I'd go with the Scotts which is essentially an Ohlins damper with a Scotts logo on it.

I wasn't too happy with my OEM on my K7 1K. I got an Ohlins from MotoMummy & it's been perfect. It mounts just like the OEM does.

Re: Fast sweep corner dampening

Interesting thing for me, after spending a good amount of time setting up my old K7 1000 which did not have stock suspension pieces. The steering damper was pretty much there for insurance reasons and my bike never went into a tank slapper no matter what was thrown at it on the street. So the stock damper would have done the trick but of course I had changed it out for foolish reasons in the end.

Setting up your suspension correctly is key and the steering damper should only be for just in case if having one of those moments, not a bandaid for a poorly set up bike.

Re: Fast sweep corner dampening

My K7 had an odd "nervous" feeling at speed when hard on the gas & the front end a little light on surfaces that weren't smooth. I played around with my settings & it was always there, it wasn't bad but it was strange & just didn't feel stable enough or secure on really small bumps/rough surfaces. I changed out the damper for the Ohlins & it's never done it since.

Was in the same boat as yourself, learned of a few flaws with Suzuki's set up while doing research. Played around a lot with trying to set up oem suspension but could not get it to my liking, so I went full after market for a few reasons. First was to learn how to properly set up suspension using the best available, second was to have full ohlins before retiring from sport bikes all together.

It was really weird, it never did anything nasty or scary, it was just enough to be in the back of my head that it wasn't fully settled & it felt like a slightly wrong move could make it get slapping around.
