That' all folks.
So you're good with lane splitting when it's not necessary, speeding and changing 2 lanes simultaneously to pass a large truck on the right without seeing what's in that lane? Over here they will set up signs and traffic cones creating a gradual lane closure about a half mile before the roadwork. While something like that could have been put in place here, the rider was most definitely riding carelessly and ultimately CAUSED the crash. The sign sitting there didn't jump out and hit him. That could have easily been a disabled car/truck sitting there. You can't put the blame entirely on the road crew.

Re: Never Pass on the Right

I wouldn't recommend passing on the left on 2 lane roads either . Had a young woman put on her right turn signal and she started to brake so I started to go to the left . Next thing I see is her starting to turn left into a driveway. I stopped 2 inches from her drivers door.

Just because you are doing something illegal doesn't make an accident your fault. I mean if you were doing 70mph in a 65mph zone and someone drove into you it would still be their fault!

Why do people insist on driving this way in traffic? Death wishes maybe?

Unless something falls out of the sky, from directly overhead, All crashes are avoidable.
While I agree that was rider error your last comment was just fucking stupid.
All crashes are NOT avoidable - You've obviously never suffered the misfortune of having a car pull out of a junction on you. I have and a crash was not avoidable however good the rider was.

Re: Never Pass on the Right

Jesus christ, solely the riders fault.

Over here and in most of Europe there's no coning off half a mile away or a dude waving a flag. You are told by means of adequate signage of roadwork start and then of it's finish. There will also have been plenty of signage a mile and then 1/2 mile warning of lane closure before roadworks.

I'll just add there's no flag waving guy because a guy waving a flag would involve somebody actually doing some work on the miles and fucking miles of roadworks we have over here.

Sorry but I'd say you were not scanning and predicting the intersection properly.

I approach every intersection with extreme caution knowing that someone can pull out in front of me at any time.

In fact I've avoided at least 2 t-bones I can remember just by having done the 10 second scan of an intersection, slowed down on my approach, and noticing the potential for someone to do that.

If you cannot see all sides of an intersection then that is another clear marker for slowing down and damn near stopping before going through it to make sure some dumbass does not t-bone you.

Having the "right of way" does not mean shit (car or bike) you always need to have the mentality (and be prepared for) opposing traffic to not give way or follow the law/rules.

First time you "assume" could be the last.
