2012 vs 2005 GSXR 1000

The German PS motorcycle magazin have just made a comparison between the 1000 K5 and 1000 L2, and the K5 beats the L2 in every speed and power test. The L2 only win by 1 point, and just because it has a better suspension. If anybody have the magazin, and can put it on the web, you should read it.

It is really a disapointment for the L2

Some say the 05-06 was the greatest gixxer liter bike ever made.

Given that emissions are more stringent now I wonder what the results would be if they compared both bikes with full exhausts and tuned.

To be honest the motors haven't changed that much powerwise in race trim. They are all knocking the door of around 210-220 bhp.
The chassis on the newer bike is better as is suspension

I wouldn't argue this. Just got a 2011 GSXR, had an older CBR 1000. The GSXR is a better bike as technology catches up, mainly suspension and features is what I notice. The older 1000 just had that raw go-now.

Any brand supersport 1000, I would bet you would find the last 10 years run about the same (time) if doing a 1/4 mile.

I'm sorry I missed the K5 if it is that much snappier in the midrange. I find the L1 to be much more raw and harder hitting as a street bike than my 08 ZX10, much closer to what my 05 ZX10 was with a better chassis. Once I dump the cat box I'm going to be in heaven.

I have ridden both K5/6 and L2, and the L2 feels stiffer/more firm in the chassis, suspention feels better, and the brakes are superior to the K5.
Hard to compare the engine,as the L2 I rode had the oem cat/exhausts and only 2000kms on the clock, but it felt crisper than my last k9.

Ha ha, fucking AWESOME. Love my K6 and the suspension mods make it just that much sweeter.

The L2 just seems like a more refined bike.

Re: 2012 vs 2005 GSXR 1000

The 2012 GSXR might have a little more refined suspension, but I wouldn't even think of trading my '05 with Bazzaz TC and Akra Ti full system on it. Even with just the pipe, it would be dumb to go out and dump 11 grand on a new GSXR with so other options to choose from.

Suzuki completely missed the mark on this bike IMO, everyone who buys a literbike is stepping up from something they already own, and if they don't have a good enough bike to make people do that they just plain failed. Suzuki has had plenty of time to catch up to the BMW-which BMW admitted they used the '05/06 GSXR as a starting point. How the Germans can come in and usurp Suzuki's status is pretty comical given it was their first try, but the response from Suzuki is pretty pathetic to be honest.

And if you get a brand new 2012, you're back to stock regardless how refined the bike is compared to the earlier models.

Re: 2012 vs 2005 GSXR 1000

Had to take my K6 into Crescent Suzuki today for it's MOT (yearly Dept Transport Test), so took out an L2 for road test.
To be honest it steered very well, changing direction with no effort (but so does my K6).
It felt compact and comfortable (so does my K6)
The power delivery was ok although it felt a bit snatchy off closer throttle. Having said that the bike had covered less than 100 miles. The brakes hadn't even bedded in.
All in all it was a nice bike to ride. Would I change my K6 for one??????
NO CHANCE! but then my K6 is far from stock
