How compatible? K4 has a single thermistor style level sensor that, in the 1000's, was only used from K2-K4. Later pumps have swingarms. It's probably possible to mount a K4 thermistor on a later pump but I don't know if you consider that to be compatible. They all deliver 300 kPa/43 psi. But K7 & later have an improved pump design. I think that the mounting flanges are all the same but the angle of the fuel outlet line varies slightly. The newer pumps don't extend below the flange as much. There are some cheaper aftermarket pump motors. But clogged filters are probably the biggest problem. Rusted up flanges/bases could be the second biggest.
They deliver the same pressure AFAIK. Check the appropriate service manual for the free flow rate and compare with yours. The pump ought to work if the rate is the same or better. The impression that I get, but it's only that, is that the T30 pumps all flow the same. Ditto the T35's.
But, as said before, the biggest issue is the filter.
Hi, just registered to try and find some genius that might be able to help me out. When you say "K4 has a single thermistor style level sensor" does this affect the functionality of the pump? Basically my pump is priming on ignition but shutting down on the start button. The engine has just been fitted into a spaceframe racing car with a complete engine, harness and dash from the same bike but the pump was bought separately. My question to the level sensor is because the pump is mounted under my seat which works out below the headers and also pointing downwards in the tank rather than upwards like in the stock tank.
When bridging the pump directly to a battery it flows fine and throws fuel into the fuel rail but the moment we press the starter button it shuts down. Had someone who has done 4 of these conversions into cars and checked all wiring and bridging and all is in order as per the other installations he has carried out....any idea? Thanks!
